Desperate...

The course is open but in my opinion not worth playing at the moment. I feel I can get more value working on my short game and hitting the range. I'm happy with where my game is considering I've played twice since the start of December. Day off on Friday and hoping to get out and play a few holes if it dries out (unlikely) or a solid short game session. Weather not looking good next weekend either

Agree. Course is open, all greens in play, but the ground is still very soft in places. Haven't played my home course since mid December and haven't played anywhere else for the last 4 weeks. Don't really see any value in playing as its impossible to judge ball striking compared to what it should be off "normal" turf.

Am taking the opportunity to "refine my bag" for the coming year.... new set of irons incoming after a fitting, then possibly minor adjustments to the hybrid and gap wedge arrangements and I should be fit to go in early March.

This surprises me but depends if you've got temps or not. With temps I'd be inclined to agree but without temps I just feel that if I can score well with the wind bellowing, hands numb, clothes sodden and the course playing longer then I'm made for the better weather. That and the fact that I'm not a fan of the range...

No brainer for me. The course is waterlogged in large areas including some fairways, and even worse in the rough. Balls are plugging off every tee. The bunkers are waterlogged or compacted and the wind is making it a mockery to club correctly and players are getting blown about. We even had some patio furniture blown into the pond on Saturday. I've concluded a large element of my short game woes isn't so much I can't do it in a passable fashion, but I don't trust it. By investing my time now, my thinking is I can go out, happy that I've put the work in and stand there and simply hit it. I can get the longer game tight on the range and be ready for the drier and warmer weather. I'm happy

Can't get a chance to.play my local let alone make it over to you :( but thanks for the offer may take you up on that in Spring time

More than welcome anytime

So no more Japan only Putters? You disappoint me! Actually, you'd be better served to burn some of those dire coloured trousers!!

@Homer...I think you have the wrong attitude to 'Winter Golf'! It about everything about Golf except the actual Golf! I shot 20 and 38 points over the weekend and the pleasure of each day was virtually the same!

Wait until Spring before trying to refine the swing and perfect (hah!!) the short game!

Managed 5 rounds this year, generally happy with scoring.
Driving is much more consistent with the Velox shaft
Fairways are a bit so-so but the hybrid is working well
Irons and short game steady and the putting generally sound.
Bearing in mind how little I've played compared to what I would normally I'm pretty happy
Historically, I've taken a month or 2 of a new year to "get going" but last year and this I've been scoring well from the off.
A couple of tweaks in the bag are a possibility soon, swapping out a wedge for the 4 iron and replacing tired fairways.

Sorry but I disagree with your assumption. With standing water on fairways, balls plugging (and have been lost) on fairways I just don't see the merits. If the ground was dry and it's a howling gale and freezing, then yep, I'd be there and playing. The course is border line playable and I simply feel there's more merit to working on things that'll stand me in better stead later on in the season.

Only managed 12 holes at my home course so far in 2016. Been closed for over a week now (and rightly so).
Range sessions for me lately trying to keep mobile.
My lessons start next week and I can't wait.
Will be polishing up the new swing that went in last year but big focus on short game around the green and putting...it's where my strokes gained are to be found
Have a great year y'all...once it dries up

I've only played six times since the end of October, normally it's once a week in winter, occasionally twice with the odd one rained/snowed off somewhere along the line.

I've put the time to good use and practiced at the range. So far, it seems to be paying off with consistently higher scores across my last 3 rounds and my teaching pro confirming his satisfaction with how things are going.

No new hardware going in the bag at the moment, although I like the look of the new Mizuno, Ping, Yonex and Titleist offerings. I just can't justify purchasing them unless I gained a minimum of 10-15 yds with each club, something I just don't see happening.

My main aim is to avoid the shoulder/neck injuries that have stopped me in my tracks the past two winters. That was looking good until yesterday when, with no golf being played, I went for a bike ride with the missus and kids and managed to fall off, jarring my shoulder in the process .

It's aching a bit, but I'm seeing my physio on Thursday for my regular preventative session, so I'll get him to give it a once over and get me ready for Saturday (hopefully, weather permitting) and my playing lesson a week on Thursday.

Once the shoulder is sorted I'm good to go and looking forward to the start of our season in March!
