After watching the Accenture all weekend, i now have yearning to sample desert golf, has any one played in Arizona ?

Am not a lover of the typical American courses but this type of golf looks totally different, its a far cry from my love of Links golf , which in my eyes is the best form of the game.

I have played a few in Scottsdale - Grayhawk and TPC Scottsdale (where the Phoenix Open was held recently) and there are a couple in Dubai that are very similar.

It isn't really links golf. The grasses are different and greens are usually well watered. You tend to play from patch of green stuff to another patch. That sets up the strategy for the hole. If there is a patch of fairway that runs out at 200 yards and doesn't restart until 250, then unless you are timgolfy, you just play up 170 or 180 yards. After a few holes, it is no big deal and you just play the course as laid out. In Arizona, some of the waste areas are deemed lateral hazards and you take a drop. This is because there are a few rattlers in the waste areas and you are best not in them much.

Played on 1 in the States a few years ago, wasn't for me to be honest. Far better offerings out there than Desert courses. Vegas has some better offerings although the place is in the middle of the Desert some of the Courses have a totally different feel to them. Give 1 a go by all means but there nothing to get that excited about.

I'm with Ethan. Any chance of a snake within a mile of my ball I ain't going near it, even if I can see it. France that.

I used to work for a US company, and one year they had an event in Scottsdale and they had a game of golf. One of the company execs got bitten by a rattlesnake. On arrival at the ER, he was told he was luck that only one fang had broken the skin, so he only had half the dose of venom, but he would need anti-venom and stayed the night. He later said that his leg felt like someone was standing by the bit repeatedly hitting it with a baseball bat for the next 48 hours or so. But he lived. Next year they went bowling instead.
