Following on from my post the other day about maybe hitting my goal for the season.

Went to the course tonight for a twilight 9 holes (which I managed in +7 btw) and also to see if the results had been posted for the comp.

Turns out I won both my division and over-all winner with 43 points. Very happy with this but noticed my cut was 1.5 instead od the 2.1 I was expecting for shooting 7 under my handicap.

Turns out the CSS was 2 under for the comp' rather than par, hence only getting cut 1.5 instead of 2.1.

Happy with the cut regardless as it gets me closer to my goal of breaking 18 for the season and gives me a night out for the awards evening at the end of the season :D

Sounds like you're getting your calculations mixed up. Par isn't used for handicap calculations, SSS is. Given you said CSS was 2 under par, SSS must be 1 under. CSS can only go 1 under SSS and up to 3 over. This time of year CSS rarely goes up so the best you could have got was 1.8.

Quite right. At the start of the round I hears it muttered by the group infront that the CSS was par so, wrongly, ussumed I was 7 under my handicap until I got to the club where it turned out CSS was 2 under.

Works out as I got cut 1.5 (5 x 0.3). Still happy though.

G1BBO - Totally agree and like I said in the previous thread. At the minute reducing my handicap is my main goal. I don't care if I keep coming in the top 10 as long as my handicap keeps coming down.

CSS isn't known until all the scores are in as it's based on the scores for that competition.
They may have been talking about SSS, but if that's the case it never changes and is normally printed on the scorecard with possibly a different number for each set of tees used.

As said above, CSS is always in relation to SSS, not par.

Confused? You will be :)

Well done on the cut by the way, and also the win :)

It can help rather than hinder, I shot under my handicap over the club champs, CSS was at 74! Got cut .3 x3 rather than .3 alone. Thanks to CSS I dropped from a 14 handicap to a 12 within 8 days without shooting the lights out!
