Are these a pile of junk or would you imagine it would survive for 5 years with little issues? Fancy a new car for the golf and was looking at the Dusters as they fulfil my criteria of:

-Large boot space
-Cheap

From what I have seen of them they will last you the 5 years with minimal issue. But you do get what you pay for and in this case thats not much.
My mate has a Duster, fairly "high spec" for them and the one word that sprang to mind was 'plastic', lots and lots of plastic. No bells, no whistles and a rather agricultural sounding diesel block. But it works, he likes it and its actually not too bad to drive.

Resale will be the issue as they are cheap to start with. Looked at them last Tim HID changed her car. They look nice but when up close it is a bit basic. If you're on a budget and want new then maybe worth a punt, but there are better value cars out there.

I have a relation who works for renault and says they can't order them fast enough. And that they are holding up well. The stepway is the one to have so he says.

Our place has sold well over 1000 of them and by and large most are happy with them, don't expect it to feel or work like something that costs more and you won't be disappointed.
Like everything the have their faults. All are being called into a bodyshop to have the main door seals replaced after a few had a paintwork issue caused by leakage, unfortunately the roof gutter strips are on backorder and have been for a long time so a lot of these are being called in for half a job and then will be called back to finish it.
The engines and gearboxes are Renaults so are good without being bulletproof, but unfortunately a lot of the electrics are Renaults as well.
One feature which has caused irritation is that a hard drive/usb stick formatted to be used with the media system can't be used as a PC hard drive, the formatting is different.
And finally don't buy it to tow anything, the boss had one to pull his boat around and it was unpleasant even with 4wd.

Are you suggesting they use something other than FAT32 or NTFS? as I don't think this is restricted to Dacia. Most, if not all ICE Media Systems recognise Flash Memory sticks formatted to FAT32 (standard format for a flash memory stick) whereby nearly all PC Systems these days use NTFS. That said, it shouldn't stop a PC reading it as a PC will read a flash memory drive no problem.
I use a 160GB SATA Laptop drive in an Icy Box enclosure in my Mercedes A220, this also had to be formatted FAT32 (which takes ages and 160GB is a lot to format) as NTFS was unrecognised.

OP - can't really answer your questions, but can say I quite like the quirky styling of the Duster. Had a short trip out to alps a few months back and the hire companies had a load of them also - cheap 4x4 for the mountains I suppose. They won't keep them for 5 years but will have done their sums.

Clearly they have had to keep the cost down, partly by not offering things people don't really need, and with the interior. I would have thought generally may start to see the difference from 7 - 8 years onwards. No more than a gut feel. Good luck with whatever you go with.

Test drove the top end trim duster a while ago. Lovely to drive comfortable and plenty of storage. Decent interior is a little plastic. At under 15k I'd have not problem considering one if buying for myself. Was looking at it as a lease option but don't think it will be worth it for that since BIK is quiet high and price is so low I can probably lease something higher end for the same cost.

Had a lift home in a Dacia. Hated it and if I was in the market for a car, it would be well down the list of options, even on a budget.
Most people would hate having a lift in my car, but perhaps Dacia's are about the driving experience. I have heard it is up their with a Ferrari 250 GTO.

I would hold fire on buying a NEW make/model , until all the inevitable initial faults and teething problems appear and are then resolved. Or maybe try asking on a car forum

For £15k I'd rather put my money in a 2 year old Qashqai.
It will still be worth about £10k in 3 years time.
