Cyclists

Tax them, make them have some degree of insurance, on the spot fines for riding on pavements and jumping lights

I don't like cyclists

he Met police have been known to target certain traffic lights where masses of cyclists jump the red lights. Its quite funny seeing a police cycle complete with blue light, siren and chequer stickers giving an on the spot fine and three points to a cyclist.:)

Happily tax me, the same as a zero emissions car I would assume? Not exactly the best way to spend tax payers money though, setting up that system for zero revenue.

I've also got insurance, nice of you to be concerned though. You know the on the spot fines exist right? But rightly, the police are probably a bit more concerned about those massive boxes of metal that go around speeding, running red lights and killing people, more than a cyclist annoying a couple of people.

Why do you not like cyclists?

Its the large groups of ignorant cyclists riding 3 and 4 abreast that annoy me. More than happy to give them consideration, and a very wide berth, if they reciprocate. But there seems to be a section of them that think they are allowed to be ignorant because they are vulnerable.

Maybe I'm biased as I cycle a lot, but it also means I look out even more for cyclists. Clearly i'm looking at the wrong things as I genuinly couldn't tell you when I last saw a group cycling 3/4 abreast for more than a couple of seconds. I think it may be that from behind it looks like it, because they're not in 2 straight lines, but it would make no sense at all to be 3 abreast, on a non-closed road. You would be massively stuck if any potholes or road issues came up.

I await loads of evidence now proving me wrong...

Just been watching some cyclists from France on ITV4, they were 20 a breast at some point, the poor drivers in the cards behind had no way of getting past!!!!!!

Local council spent thousands to build a cycle path alongside a main road near here. I have never seen it being used all cyclists still ride on the road!

happens all the time, cars and motorbikes that is.
main difference is cyclist racing each other ( usually for the "sign") won't be breaking the speed limit. and i doesn't happen on busy roads, usually small villages on quite Sunday morning rides

They do in our village 40+ cyclists, down the hill and past the entrance to the school and playpark at around 40mph. [in a 30mph area]
Nobody hears them coming.
I followed a group in my car once on the bendy bits they were averaging 30 mph, the speed I normally take on that section of road.

Being Dad to a couple of MAMiLs I worry sick about the day its more than a bit of tarmac rash they are recovering from...

Too many arsewipes out there that feel its acceptable behaviour to run someone off the road purely because they may have been delayed a few minutes... Some folk need to get a life... Bad enough having to worry about those not paying attention and wiping out those on two wheels... And feel, "sorry mate I didn't see you" is enough...

I'm a regular cyclist and also a 20k Miles per year Driver. I know which method of transport causes the most issues. If you're too important to wait a few minutes to pass a cyclist then you should consider asking the Police for an outrider team. If not, then suck it up and stop acting like you're the most important thing on the road.

oh look, a it couldn't be me post. I used to cycle a lot, and up to 120 miles a day, and I watch out a lot more than cage only drivers. There's good and bad cyclists but the mere fact you can't see that suggests you're one of those it's never me cyclists.

I'll be honest. I've never seen riders more than 2 abreast. I live on the UK Ironman cycle route and they're past here in their hundreds, especially at this time of year. I've never seen them riding 3 or 4 abreast.

Have you missed my posts criticising cyclists for things like red lights, and riding on the pavement? Cyclists do lots of bad things. What I have never seen though, is 3/4 abreast. It may look like it from behind, if they are staggered, but no way are there 3 or 4 wheels, side by side, consistently. It just doesn't happen more than 1 in 1000 times. It's laughable that it's the go to complaint of car drivers

Whatever... yes I know about staggered riding and escape routes that staggered riding leaves. But your right of course riding 3 and 4 abreast never happens:rolleyes:

I have this image in my head now. Please tell me it's true.

But triathletes have no bike skills. All they do is ride a straight line 10m apart from each other :D

Just trying to buy a house close to a local triathlon route (Thames Turbo Series). Viewing was fun as on weekends 'all' of west London starts out that way. However, I have been on the other side for a long time. I have all the patience sitting behind cyclists.
