Ok, I've cut down said pencil myself. Now I've a problem I didn't think of. I now have two pieces, the sharpened end and the other half with the eraser. Can I use the sharpened end now it doesn't have the balance of the attached eraser, or could I sharpen the other half that still has the eraser attached?

Maybe I should book a lesson? Help!

Aah....you have now created the classic conundrum. It's a bit like the advice I give my girlfriend when she is dieting. If she cuts the piece of cake in half, it has half the calories. Therefore, she can eat twice as much :thup:

Just accept that you are unbalanced
It'll be fine :)

I bought a purple coloured sharpie. Equally as bad. I stick to black as its the only colour that doesn't seem to fade every couple of holes. Fortunately the famous Camberley Heath ball was donated to the golfing gods on its next outing.

Disappointed to read such a negative attitude from such a strong proponent of the mental side of the game.

Two things;

If you alter the characteristics of the pencil mid round you can't continue to use in that round. And, as long as you don't carry more than 14 pencils you should be ok.

Does the amount of lead you have in your pencil make a difference?
