hi everyone just had a fitting session at the ping fitting centre at gainsbourgh an ended up havin a G10 9 loft with a grafaloy pro launch platinum stiff shaft all i can say is what a club! its awesome. the session was really helpful an the high tech kit theyve got is second to none. with my old x flex r7 i was getting a average carry of 260 yards but with miles to much back spin an gettin not run wen landing, when playing into wind you could see the ball holding up. with this mega g10 it just powers threw the wind with ease with a much less spin. a truly awesome club and a great fitting service. thanks to the lads a ping

Whilst not doing Ping down, I don't think you can beat the custom fit experience from any of the big manufacturers. If nothing else it is great fun, and inevitably you find your old club is illfitting junk.

Just got confirmation of my "appointment" for a session at Titleist's national fitting centre near St Ives - hopefully to come out with a spanking new set of AP2s. Anyone been there and got any comments?

Yes, I have been there for my ZBs. Very good at what they do, and you can play Brampton Park GC for £15 too, so take a mate, and afterwards you can play. Nice course, I thought.

They don't stock a huge amount of shafts though, just the usual ones, dynamic gold, project X, Nippon NSpro etc, but not black gold. Not sure what they stock in graphite.

Be prepared to hit a lot of balls, as to decide on shaft make, flex, length, lie takes quite a while, and requires hitting quite a few balls (or may be that was me and my dodgy swing).

They are very professional though, and it is fun.

They have a range where you can warm up first, and get your swing going, but beware of hitting too many balls, as you don't want to wear yourself out.

Out of curisosity murph, how much did you pay for the session or was it free when you bought the clubs?

The C/F sessions I have had only last 45 mins and the kinda rush through all the shafts in that time and then give you the best one. IMO it should really take a couple of hours to have a good 15 20 mins with each shaft etc and some breaks in between to discuss/reflect on the results.

Browneye1, so what is your new average carry with the G10?

Homer, you went direct to Chessington yes?

I think once I've finished my next series of lessons I might well take a 2 day to London and go there myself.

I've given away my spare irons and could keep the Mac-Gs in the event of Callaway recommending a different set-up.

Titleist book in 2 hour slots. They have 3 slots per day, but 2 booths, so they could do 6 per day. It costs £25.

Because of the deal I was getting on the clubs, £10 per stick on top of whatever Titleist charged, I paid the £25 myself. I guess it is up to you to negotiate with your pro, because the c/f session has to be booked through a pro, and the clubs (if you order) through a pro too.

I am thinking of going back for a 909D3.

Given that a number of forummers have experienced c/f, can I ask what your approach has been to the question of the club maker? Several have said that they went to Titleist, Callaway, Ping, whoever, and obviously they will then be supplied with that maker's clubs. But does this not remove the possibility that one maker's product will suit more than another's...? In other words, might it not be better to go to a suitably equipped AG or DG where different makes would come into the equation? Or am I, as usual, making a simple concept into a difficult one?!

I like titleist stuff, and wanted a set of ZBs, as I like them. It may be that a set of G10s would suit me better, but I wouldn't buy them or use them, because I don't like the look of them.

That said, I have played off 12 for 20 years, and have played blades through to GI cavity backs, with no change in h/cap. I am inherently a poor ball striker, and can use the bottom edge or toe of any design of club with equal results.

I think it is more important to get the right shaft spec than anything else.

Dave,

I got the visit booked up via a demo day. They basically took my details and then e-mailed me a time and date from there. I think you can do it directly or via your local pro. They are based on the Barwell Industrial Estate, Leatherhead Road, Chessington and if you are coming from the M25 you basically go past the World of Adventures, across a set of lights and they are about 100 yards down onthe right.

Mawgan, if you would like a selection of more than one brand you can go somewhere like the Belfry where you have to narrow your choice down to 5 of the brands they fit for (I think its 5) and then you can try all the clubs out of these manufacturers within the alloted time. That is a better bet then American / direct golf

Mawgan,

I tried almost every club in the shop at my local range and settled on the Titleists. Only then arranged the fitting. Cost of fitting session will be £20 but I'll get it knocked off the price of the clubs. From what murph says, should be a fun day regardless

Thanks very much for the input, Eaglehunter, Backwoodsman (is there a cowboys and indians thing going on here...?). I don't have the experience yet to be able to settle on fitting for one make only - I would prefer to try various manufacturers' wares.
I do secretly fancy some Titleists though...!
