Curious question ? Blades

Would they have less chips and pitches if they hit a decent iron shot? Don't need to answer that I'm just kidding. People should absolutely use whatever they want.

Absolutely right. See you use I20 which I dont think are the most forgiving club around, Blades I wouldnt have thought would be that much of a problem for you. Depends how much practice the player puts in as well I suppose

The i20s are surprisingly forgiving! I went to the shop looking at Wilson GI clubs and hit the Pings almost for a laugh and couldn't believe it. Last week when the wife was looking at a driver I had a hit with a Nike blade...i20s are nowhere near as unforgiving.

Nike VR swoosh if that helps, I don't know much about nike clubs, that was written on the tag. Ill take them out and prob shank them everywhere ;-)

Tried a set before I got the Combos - didn't even bother taking the 3 and 4 iron out in the end as it was pointless as they were too unforgiving on a mis-hie. Get the Combos then you get the best of all worlds.

There aren't that many Pros these days with a whole set of blades, so don't know why you would want to make life difficult for yourself TBH.....

Only one way to find out.

Actually a good time of the year to see if they suit you. Doesn't look like like the temp is getting much above 4-5 degrees. If you can't hit them you'll soon know it. ;)

I do not understand why people have it in their heads that blades make this game harder to play. Been using my mizzies for the winter and they are about as close to a pure blade that you can get. I have been playing fantastic and my iron play has been amazing.

If someone wants to use blades then go for it. Only thing I would say is make sure that you can use them, not just able to hit a few good shots with them. At times people put clubs in their bag because they think it makes them look good. A bit like the bloke with an 8 degree driver fitted with a X-stiff shaft that hits 1 or 2 fairways a round if he is lucky.

If you are buying them off your pro surely you can try them first before parting with the readies. If you don't get on with them then no harm done. It is hard to qualify who can and can't hit them and comes down to the individual. Of you don't try you won't know

I was playing off 8 a couple of years ago... my irons were my strength but, as usual, my driving was very poor.

I played TM RAC MBs, Cleveland CG1 Black Pearls and Adams Pro Black MBs, each for a few weeks. They were too much club for me and my scores deteriorated.

I used them as I thought I would benefit from improved distance control. Without doubt, they delivered improved distance control (hit 3 shots well and they practically landed on top of one another), but the reduced forgiveness was too much.

My personal opinion is you need to be a low handicapper... not necessarily to play blades, but to realise a net benefit from what they have offer.

They looked bloody cool tho!

Best looking irons I've ever owned...

Blades and smaller better player irons can suit all handicaps if you can hit the middle of the club more than not

Some will need more swing speed to get the ideal distance

When i went to try the Mizuno irons i expected they would be the JPX 800 or 825 GI clubs, however i actually hit the 825 Pro better than the others with good accuracy. I lost distance compared to my Wilson Di11 but that is due to GI often having jacked lofts

In other words my JPX 4 iron is like the di11 5 iron, difference is i am more accurate with the smaller headed JPX Pro irons

Also you have to like what you see addressing the ball, if its like a shovel ?

Really. I hit hit I15's and found them fairly unforgiving, Ping must have changed them a bit then.

I'm ultra high handicapper and I'm just starting. Bought mb blades for friend who then decided he dsnt want them.
I play them now, and I actually like the fact that they are not forgiving - I play with different swings all the time - like to know if swing works or not and its easy to say with blades :)

Well hit though ... its like cutting the butter with hot knife. Once I get that feeling rest of my round is near perfect - my problem is I forget what I was doing next time I play :)

You can all tell me these clubs are not for me (as some already did) but its not for me with my current hcp - and I believe, with them it will change quicker.

Good post.

If you're hitting the middle of the bat it doesn't matter what you're using
You could use a shovel-like SGI iron or the lastest pure blade, if you're contacting the sweetspot you'll feel nothing, or virtually nothing.
It's when you start missing the middle that the problems start. It's all very well saying that anyone can use blades but if the sweetspot isn't being found then it's doing harm to the scoring ability of that player.
Pros find the sweetspot more often than not. Most of them use some form of cavity club - why? Because they know that if they don't middle it with a blade the outcome is in the lap of the Gods, with a cavity you have a chance of getting near where you want to be.

If your ball striking is good enough then use blades, use what ever you like. But if you don't find the middle, and more often that not it's the Higher handicappers that don't, then you are making the game harder.
