Crown Golf Selling off 8 Courses

Glad to see South Winchester is safe, we are very busy and as far as I know we have very few memberships available.

The course is always busy... sometimes too busy but I have not had many rounds spoilt by slow play.

I wonder what they will do with the extra money?

I've played Chelsfield Lakes and although quite liked the course, I'm not surprised it's being sold. Seven years ago it was the venue for my first family society - my Brother tried to negotiate a good deal for the following year, playing on the Saturday and Sunday but they weren't too interested. He contacted Darenth Valley Golf Course and we've been there every year since. Last June there were over 30 playing, obviously this included invited guests. My Brother handed over more than £3000 in cash to the management for green fees and food. Bet Chelsfield would like some of that now.

I've also played Cray Valley too and always enjoy a game there. I particularly like the elevated tees, always gives confidence for a good drive

HUGE!!

I've spoken to a couple of pros tonight who knew about this a few days ago and the hope from Crown Golf was that someone would by them as an entire portfolio which doesn't look likely now. I think they will go one by one and for that reason I worry that they will all remain as golf courses.

I play my golf and have my handicap at South Essex one of the courses on the for sale list.
In fairness to Crown Golf they have the course in great condition. However South Essex had an original concept of "Pay and Play" and with it's location close to the M25 relies upon society bookings. Clearly the economic situation will have had an effect on this.
Of course Crown Golf have spent a fortune on St Mellion in order to secure the English open there in 2011. It is a lovely location and from what I am told the facilities are superb. However could there have been a worst time to have to spent this money and is the location of St Mellion going to make it dificult for them to get a quick return. Could they have put to many eggs in one basket?

Is that what you think the sale is about? It does seem strange to see off assets that are making a profit less you need some cash.

I must admit, I do quite like the 9th at Ruxley.

An true impossible par 3 in the summer, play short and hope if doesn't get stuck in the bunker or fringe, go for the pin and watch the people on the patio scatter like panicking ants, to be fair the 2nd, 3rd 9th & 18th are quite nice holes. I think ruxley should have stayed a 9 hole as the back 9 (well 12th, 13th, 14th & 16th ) are pretty boring, the 17th should mature into a nice hole when the trees that guard the green grow a bit more. the cray has dome nice holes too, the 4th springs to mind

Think HTL may be pleased to see the back of Pyrford. Not one on his all time list. Traditions isn't great so not overly surprised. I knew my local one (5 minutes away) Blue Mountain would be safe as Crown Golf's HQ is there.

It'll be interesting to see what happens and I dearly hope they are bought as going concerns and not sold off for housing or something else. I guess with the right investment, they could all have the potential (even if I don't like some of them) to be nice tracks

Don't worry about traditions Homer, that place is so wet the only accomodation they could put on there is a fleet of house boats :D
