To use an expression from another thread - hardly a 'reasonable' calculation. The parameters would have to be very extreme.

There are some extremely short examples beginning to come out as courses are looking to have very short winter or beginner courses rated where the master tee set is either a short par 4 and for example there is a longish carry but tee of the forward course is forward of it.
Just checking a course we rated last year that has 3 par 4s under 200 and 4 others under 215 yards. This is from the men’s card. It also has a 286 yard par 5 for women.

Indeed. With our re-rating this summer, we are looking at standardising pars, which would result in us having a 355 yard par 5 for men, and a 175 yard par 4 for women, from the blue (winter) tees.
And Woodlands has always had some very short par 4s and 5s even without going to the forward tees.

Pre around 1989 clubs used to have set par strictly based upon length, post that time they were allowed to set par based upon difficulty. Where I play we went from par 69 to par 72 on the yellows based upon changing 3 long par 4s to par 5s two of which have remained par 5s ever since and one which has changed a few times.
These days the charts allow for this with overlap as shown in the charts

Played a course in Thailand that had 2 par 6's.....
first one I hit driver over water, then 3 wood back over water, then 2 five woods,
two putted for a par 6.....plus I got a shot on the hole, index 4 or 5 for three points.

We held a prestigious scratch tournament here this week and the visitors were beaten to a pulp by our course which is rated as quite easy by the system. The maths and the reality just don't match up.

There are a few things here...
- Your expectation of scoring in such events is far too high. Scores in the high 70s, into the 80s, and even higher are not unusual in all elite amateur events, regardless of the course - scoring in The Open RQs (which has a max. HI 0.4 for entry) on Monday showed that very clearly. And in your case, these are seniors with handicaps up to about 5.
- Despite often being advised not to by organsiers, it's common for courses to be specially setup for these events: longer rough, quicker greens, more difficult the average hole locations, etc. - the difference to ratings of such changes is not insignificant.
- A PCC of 0 on day one, 2 on day two and 3 on day 3 suggests the ratings are fine and any poor scoring was more a result of conditions (described as "brutal" in another thread; and/or fatigue) on days 2 and 3, rather than any particular difficulty in the course.

Welsh seniors? The scoring was extremely high for what appeared on paper to be a pretty straightforward course.

I see from the website that your course has been re-rated since the shockingly wrong assessment in 2023. The CR and Slope Ratings now look fine to me. Were the club given a reason, or apology, for the stupid ratings in 2023?

Our course was re rated a couple of years ago, both CR and SR were reduced, which meant that most peoples handicaps went up, the Club did query the changes and were told that there would not be a rerating until 2027.
So far this year, one of our ladies would a Manchester & District singles trophy, one pair won a M&D past captains competition, In a county foursomes competition in the regional final one of our pairs won, the other two pairs both qualified for the county final, all 3 teams won their respective shield groups, We won our regions interclub competition. As well as the ladies our junior team is into the last 16 of a National Junior competition.
Yes, we are competitive but it does tend to point to our ratings helping us considerably.
