Hi
I was wondering if anyone had ever found a way of cutting their scores by using a specific course management strategy alone? I like alot of people usually just reach for the driver without thinking which is one of my major faults. Just interested to hear if anyone had any tips?

Hmm.

I've found ways of improving my average scores on certain holes by completely re-thinking strategy, yes.

There are 4 holes at mine which were wrecking my cards week in week out.

I did it by "adding one stroke to the par" and working out where I wanted to be after my 2nd shot.

An example would be our 455 yard par 4 S.I. 2. I made 6s and 7s every week trying to play an near impossible tee shot.
These days I hit a 5 iron then work out what's next....it's usually around 260-275, although I haven't paced it. If I feel a long way back, I hit a rescue aimed at the right bunker (although I can't get anywhere near the green) or maybe only another 4 or 5 iron. As long as I don't go left (avoided at ALL costs) I will have 70-90 yards. Hit the green, 2-putt and walk on.....simples.

I play to leave a "wedge" of some sort on 6/10/16 and 17. I'll take those 4 holes 4 over par.

Not trying to hole every 40 footer I look at has helped.
Get the pace right on any putt over 10 feet and you'll probably save a couple of shots in almost every round.

Learn to sink the 6' return putt.

That'll take the pressure off the first putt ( or two )
