Why illegal? - surely OK even on an iPhone if all non-compliant apps disabled - UNLESS Kings Acre is one of the enlightened and bans use of devices in club comps.

Been covered many times on here, but, if the device has certain apps that are inbuilt and cannot be removed, then it is a breach even if they are turned off and cannot be used in competitive play.

OK - I knew that - but having an golf app on an iPhone isn't in itself illegal which is why I was questioning the illegality of using the iPhone.

I was rather hoping (beyond hope) that this club had 'seen the light' - I won't go there as I have admitted defeat for the time being. But as for pivot putting the subject of use of DMDs in club comps will rise like a phoenix from the flames of defeat and fairness and golf will prevail over this damned technology :)

I think course planners are a bit rubbish really. You need to be a certified cartographer to work out your yardage. The worst part about them though is the tip from the pro as they are usually stating the blindingly obvious or offering poor advice that is years out of date.

For example: Hole 3, Par 4, 396 yards.

Pro's Tip: " On this slight dogleg left, hit a long, straight drive to the right half of the fairway. From here, playing a good mid-iron to the heart of the green should leave you with two putts for a straightforward par."

Well thanks for nothing! Wonderful insight!

Useless...
