I've just recently Joined a golf Club

My first membership, I've been playing for 2 years and after seeing my handicap improve I decided more on course time was needed to improve further..

Just 3 months in to my membership, the powers that be have started to rip up and change the course around.

JCB and 20ft holes everywhere..
Some of the fairway are just a 15ft wide paths of mud..
Features are being removed and loads more water is being (which is great make it more interesting)

I know that improvements need to be made.

BUT I feel a little disheartened as know I look down most fairways with a view of 20ft high mud piles
I can't take any of my friends or family because it's embarrassing
And don't want them to play around a muddy field. And would be embarrassed to ask them to pay a green fee to slip and slide around.

Also the fairways have never been that well looked after anyway, but know I feel that they are being further neglected as man power is being diverted to making mole hills and pot holes...(compared to some courses in the area our fairways are compared to there short rough.

Has anybody else had similar issues?

My club are in the process of re-doing the bunkering. As such over last winter, this winter and next winter we will have holes shut, bunkers as OOB and play shortened holes.
But it doesn't really matter as it's only in winter (and we play no qualifiers), so assuming the grass grows back well and knits together with the old ok, the course should be all the better for it.

Is it a members course ?

Is it a short term hit for long term improvement ?

We did some majot drainage works, mainly on our 12th this winter and the hole is still a mess with a lot of roped of areas. It needed doing and the members accepted the short term pain and ugly looking hole as a result. We've more work being carried out elsewhere this year and the results would be the same for a time with bare patches, earth piles etc. If it stops the waterlogging and leeps the course open in the wet it's fine with me

Its winter and its the best time to get the work done before the growing season starts in a few weeks time.

You wont notice it by the end of May if the work has been done right.

I wouldn't worry about it and accept they are making changes for the improvement of the course.

I will take some photos next time im out, dont think i can get across the how big this work is, I understand this is the best time to do the work.

but there wont be any grass growing on some of these patches for months..

main concern is the neglected already poor fairways

What course is this? Sometimes major work is necessary and this can take a year or two depending on how good the growing season is.
