Countback again - apologies!!

I have to offer apologies to Foxholer and Doon Frae Troon!

In my earlier posts about countback they said that if I won on countback I would not give a thought to those who came second and I said that it was still an unsatisfactory way of deciding the result of a comp but they were so right!

My 4 man Texas scramble team won on countback with 10 birdies, 8 pars and a handicap of 4.5 which gave 56.5 nett and as we birdied 9 of the last 10 holes and I was about 2ft away from a hole in one on the 18th for a car!

Golf week has ended in a win in the betterball pairs, a win in the Texas scramble, a decent 32 points in the seniors open in awful conditions and a good showing in the American foursomes - altogether very satisfactory.

Again, sorry guys you were right!

I have no compunction about winning on countback. Lost the recent medal by the dreaded c/b and had the boot been on the other foot i'd have taken the win, the pro shop vouchers and entry into the end of season Masters event.

Since having the second hip replaced in December I have won our winter league with my partner, a monthly medal, betterball stableford and texas scamble and, more important than any of them, a fiver each from Bratty and Scottjd!

You are quite correct Hobbit. My main point on the original post was that I think its an unsatisfactory way of finding a winner - you had the best front 9 and I had the best back 9, so I take the prize money! I did read in the week of a club who have the odd numbered holes and evens depending on the dates - for me, at least that is totally arbitary and doesn't pretend otherwise!
