Converting a Nett Points score to a Gross Points score.

Afaik you need to know the number of shots on every hole. A bogey gives you 1 point, a par 2, a birdie 3 and an eagle 4. You just add them up. Not sure if the SSS comes into it somehow, but I don't think so.

by gross points score do you mean the stableford points you'd have scored if off scratch? and why would you want this? (surely its just easier to add your actual gross score up from the card)

I know the system does not work if you take a ding at a hole. U need to score every hole.

Am wondering as a example If you a 10 handicapper. That scores 40 nett points 20 points on front and same on back with no blacks. What is the gross score.

In a stroke comp it's easy to work out. For example if the course par 70 you shot a 80 off ten handicap then its gross 80 nett 70.

In this case you'd played 4 under your handicap of 10. so you shot 6 over gross...

if it was par 70, you'd have shot 76.
As previously mentioned you have to finish every hole...

My club for example last week was a s/fold comp. The winner had 43 points off 5. Down to 4th place with 39.

But we always have a gross prize winner. This week it was a guy of 6 with a score of 35 'gross' points.

Made sense until you gave the example. 43 points off 5 would imply 2 under gross, 35 points gross would imply 1 over gross. Can you not win both the nett comp and best gross?

Certainly a strange way to do it I guess its so they can give a gross prize and it not turn into a medal

Unless the guy with 43 points had a blob, unlikely i know, i am trying to get my head round it:confused:

First point, nett score and point score are different things.

Nett score is gross score minus handicap.
Example gross 80 minus handicap of 9 = 71

Points score is the sum of your points on each hole.

You may equate a stableford score of 36 to playing to the players handicap but not convert it to gross.

A "gross points" score I would guess is another calculated value like a stableford point score. It could also be equated to a gross score but not directly converted to one, without knowing how it's calculated. I certainly have never heard of it.

The ONLY exception for a stableford score is you can back calculate if a player has scored no worse than a double bogeys y on every hole.

It has my head melted lol here is a screen shot dated 21st of May

I know the gross score winner it's definitely worked out a different way

My first thinking was this

Timmy had a 41 and got 3rd place and it was by BOT so therefore someone else got a 41. But 4th place was 40 so therefore only other person would have been Reece and 35 plus 6 is 41. So bingo.

But then last month blows that out of water lol. I will get the screen shot here now

Seeing all those notes make me think it's something specific done by your club. Do you see it every week?

I suggest seeing the completion secretary as it looks something "non-standard".

I questioned him one time before about getting 0.1 back in a stroke comp when I was sitting 12 place out of 100 people. His answer, i don't know it's done by the computer lol

I would think in that instance the overall winner would win both but, if like at our club you can only win one or the other, and first prize overall is usually better than gross first place.
Nett points to gross points, you just add up your points the same as you do for nett points, just u use your gross score, so I a shot hole par 4 you scored a 5 for 2 points, your gross points would be 1 point.

A competition secretary really should know the system or know how to work something out. That answer really is not satisfactory.

If they volunteer their time you can't blame them, they are probably doing their best.

So here's a comp from month before

Sean won gross with 34 gross points off 9. But when you add 9 to 34 you get 43 so therefore he win the overall comp. So that's why I know what I was thinking above was wrong.. Lol

well that contradicts what i wrote above based on the first results lol, comp secretary needs to have a look at the system and see what settings are being applied imo
