Went for a round today. Now my game has been going up and down like a brides knickers so I was looking for consistency today. Well I had consistency... I was garbage. :(

But after my round (and after the social cuppa) I went on the range. I worked things out and managed to hit the ball fairly well. Found I've been overswinging and trying to leather it!

I haven't put the serious practise in that I used to and that got me down to 8 so if I want to play to 8 I've realised I need the practise and time down the range is a neccessity. I shall be once again spending as much time as I can working on my swing but mostly homing in on the 100yards and in and on the pitching green.

Just love this game! Need to get myself addicted to practise again! :)

One of the best things i did mate was get a good wedge set up in the bag and really spend time dialing in my yardages for each wedge on full, 3/4 and half swings. This paid dividends on the course from 125 yards and in.

I used to spend hours on the pitching green so my short game from anywhere around the green was deadly! But now I've slowly been getting worse and it's got to a point where I have to play my absolute best to play to my handicap. Ive had rounds where I've played to about 25 so far this year. Now as an 8 handicapper I find it unacceptable. Once is fine but playing no where near my handicap every week and 1 out of 10 playing to about 11-12 is just crap! :)

Time to do what I used to do and really practise hard and actually play to my handicap more often. I'm genuinely looking forward to it after the hour I had earlier where I saw the potential to actually hit a ball properly!

A man after my own heart. I've been working hard on my swing over the winter and I know it is there especially in terms of striking but I can't get myself to trust it and let the swing flow.

Having got to a point where the striking has improved I really need to get back to the short game. I worked my socks off two years ago and to a lesser degree last year and reaped the rewards. I firmly believe that evenutally this game will give you back what you put in. I love the process of trying to improve anyway and working on my game so practice is never a chore.

I secretly admire you homer an all the others who spend hours at their game. It's what I wish I was doing and from now on I'm going to get back into that routine and practise hard.
I can't go on having an 8 handicap and shooting double it!

Hope your practise is going well homer! :)

Good luck with the practicing. :)

I also like to practice after a round sometimes and just recently been working on my chipping. I have started to see the results on the course but still a long way to go.

I'm spending more time on short game practice in the hope that it can make the difference this year.

Hows this for sad (or as i prefer to call it dedicated lol)... I'm looking forward to the light mornings so i can get up the course and practice my short game a couple of hours before i'm in work at 8am.

I find short game practice quite therapeutic to be honest

I love the commitment!! Sad but inspirational!! Quality mate! :) :)

I'm determined to get to Cat 1 this year and a good mate of mine is about the same level so we have a bit of a race/wager on which drives me a bit
:)

I know that without alot of practice, my game is not going to get any better. This is why I'm spending about £30 a week currently at the driving range trying to work on my swing.

I think "in game" practice will help once I've started playing in rounds once a week, but I really need the weather to get better so I can go down to the range/club and get some proper short game practice in as it's a waste of time doing it with range balls off a mat, except for getting some semi-accurate pitching yardages.
