Considering new wedges

I've got the Wilson Fg tour wedges witch are good. Forged heads and in my opinion a lot better than the cast vokeys BUT, they are not in the same league for feel as what the mpt10 mizzy's were.

If I was buying new wedges I'd be going mizzy no question. I tried the Cleveland and they just didn't do it for me

As I now have a bag almost full of new shinies I'm thinking why don't I go the full hog and update or upgrade my wedges also?

I've currently got in my bag the MP-T4's 56/12, 52/7 and 60/5, I like this combo of loft & bounce and I have 2 more that I can swap in & out being a 54 & 58.

They are all around 2.5 years old when I think they were first released, possibly a little older so the main wear is only on the 56 (sand wedge) all the others are more than OK, but it's itching at me to look at some new wedges.

So, what's hot and what's not, or should I stick with what I have because a part of me is thinking that wedges are like a driver or a putter and are very personal due to feel, so, what should I do, are there any deals out there on great wedges that are too good to pass on, or should I stick "no deal" :mmm:

i think it was needmywedge who posted and from his review decided to go to him, it's a 2hr drive for me but worth it. He not only access what you need but actually helps you out with technique and how to play certain shots within your assessment. He plays off scratch himself, you used to go to his club 20miles from his home but has know got a Huxley green in his back garden with a bunker as well. The beauty I like is that they come up brand new with sand blasting and I've had them done by him but think in the long run be cheaper if I bought the gear to do it myself........ But I'm off on a club fitting course next week to learn more about club fitting and will think about it after.

It was indeed me :D http://forums.golf-monthly.co.uk/showthread.php?64169-ICYGOLF-Wedges&highlight=icygolf

I was up with Ian only a couple of weeks back as I bought new wedges for my son - promised him a pair if he got down under 15 this season. Same level of service from Ian, gave my son a good two hour lesson on using wedges and setup in his initial fitting. Ready in a couple of days including my sons name engraved in Japanese. He refinished mine at the same time, they looked totally new, even ground out a rather nasty stone ding on one of them. I am always happy to recommend Ian, his service is second to none.

I like the sound of the Icy wedges but I'm too lazy and not quite bothered enough to travel that far.

Always fancied some exotic Japanese wedges aswell, Yururi etc, one day maybe.

Only tried the usual suspects but Bridgestone are my personal choice. Loving the J40's I've got and like the look of the J15 ones aswell.

You should make the effort, not only will you get an excellent service, you'll get those rather good Japanese wedges you are after at a good price :). Ian's wedges come from the same company in Hyogo, Japan that make Yururi wedges amongst others (http://www.kyoeigolf.co.jp/dear-overseas-golf-players) (http://www.tourspecgolf.com/yururi-satin-tataki-wedge-by-okamura).

Yeah didn't you have Japanese engraving on your wedges? When I saw that I got Ian to put my surname on the bottom in Japanese.
Totally agree with you, the wedge gets a little worn, quick sand blast and hello spin back.

If you like your Mizuno wedges then a PP was using the blue ones - S5 ? They looked really good.

The TM TP's are good - bit lighter in the head

Then there is the wedges that compliment your new irons - the RSI2 wedges

I did indeed have my name engraved in katakana, and my son's name is Japanese, Ian engraved his in the native Kanji.

Wedges are like banana's, they go off after a wee while.

I have a S5 Blue Robin and its superb. I also have T5s, the S5 is marginally larger, more rounded but not by much. The profile of the sole is lovely and as Freddielong says, they sit lovely behind the ball.

Now you've done it.....I was swaying nicely, but to still have a bit of Mizzy left in my bag is so appealing

Rainy weekend = on the mooch ;)

Glad to be od service this rainy day :D.
Also love that Mizzy do no chsrge shaft upgrades through most retailers, all my wedges have Nippon NS950 Stiff and didnt cost a bean. In fact, I got the S5 from a sports shop in Glasgow for a tenner less than everywhere else and still got them to custom order.

Happy shopping.

P.S. that said, the Taylormade TP EF wedges are stunning, and I am certainly no fan of TM gear, but have to tip my cap to those beauties.

Hello all, newbie member here. Just wanted to add a thought. I use four wedges. Yep, I know, Ive heard it all before Im quite certain. I love the cleveland CG 16 wedges, even though the prices are "cheaper", I still like this wedge best. It feels great, really great spin, and simply suits me. There are several newer and various brands out there. In fact, I just left the swing monitor trying out the new "Milled" Taylor Mades, Callaways, and a few others and I, my self, personally, got more ball spin from these old CG 16`s. At 45% swing, 4500 rpms, at full swing, for a wedge, which was around 94 mph, I hit 10k rpms a few times. Slightly lower distances but consistently got better spin. Now this is me, you may like something different. All I wanted to let ya know, if ya don`t already, is don`t worry about the newest, latest and supposed greatest. Go give them a swing and see what feels and performs best for ya. Thanks

Oh dear, I had far too much time on my hands this morning due to incorrect weather forecasts, what have I done, the wallets empty
