i'm struggling to think of an opening hole that would stand out TBH. most great courses i've played have all had a relatively straight forward easyish hole to start with.

Not argument from me about 2nd, played Burnham every February for the past 20 years.... I've never been on the same tier as the pin on 2!

always find the best holes are par 3s and par 5s when I try and do this so end up taking the Seve approach and having 6 of each

You're all wrong about the 1st hole. Saunton, St Enodoc, Burnham.....all great holes but the experience of standing on the !st tee at TOC is unbeatable.

Calamity is now the 16th, the most brutal par 3 I have ever played.
Did edit my previous and stuck the 9th at county down in, had to look at my pics to remember the hole numbers.
