This weekend was our club championships. Two days of medal play off the championship tees, any further back and you are off the edge with the pins set in the worst positions possible. Three divisions as usual. Now the best bit. In their wisdom someone on the committee decided not to put up the scores and standings from the first days play!!!! Can you imagine that? Not knowing where you stand in the comp after the first day? Can you imagine doing that at the Open...Er just go out and play another 18 Ernie, we'll let you know how you've done next week!

The worst part is, no handicap change after the first round I shot 81 with an 8 on the last (See nemesis hole thread) Today not too good an 85, I got .1 back for that, I got an email from HDID, but even though I know I shot 165 off the stick end for the two days I have no idea how I did in the comp 'cos even the pro doesn't know.
What an utter shambles, they can ram it next year......Rant over.

Not unusual in my experience. We have a number of events over bank holiday weekends and the score are never published. As the comp is held over the same course (flags aren't moved) then handicaps aren't adjusted until the end of the event.

Our club champs has a halfway cutso the first round results have to be published so peole know if they need to come back on the sunday. Players then go out in reverse score order

Our pins were moved as were the tee's Homer, Lots of people NR'ing and didin't turn up for the second round too.
Not sure how you can have an incentive to play when you do not know if you are first or last after round 1?

alternate day comps are a completely different thing Homer, as you go on to suggest, there's no real reason to do this for a 36 hole comp - and a lot of reasons not to!

we have a sudden death play-off to the 'majors' so it makes sense to everyone to seed the last 15 out on day 2.

I hope Drawboy will make his thoughts known in writing to the committee - they do appreciate being advised when people are unhappy with arrangements.

Congu recommendations no change of handicap during multiple round comps in close succession.
Is a strange decision not to display scores many clubs actually send leaders out in score order ala the pro events, I take it you don't have a computer system, we do and you know exactly where you stand as soon as you finish.

Time to appoint a decent match secretary I would suggest. Instead of telling them to ram next years event where the sun don't shine why not raise it at the AGM I'm sure you'll get a lot of support if everyone is as pissed as you are!

Make the difference and change it.

Ours came up on a big TV screen "live". Best way to do it, you did have to either wait at the club or wait for the phone call to say you had made the cut or not, but that went mostly without a hitch and only two did not turn up but that's not out of the ordinary as real life can get in the way.

It was cool going out in reverse best gross score order on the second day. Got to come in and see my name at the top of the leader board (if only for a few minutes) and then watch the better players play 18, pint in hand :D :D :D

As I understand for two round comps like that the handicap is set for all 36 holes. You can of course get cut for general play if you score well on one and mess up the other but that's retrospective.

Really though does it make a difference. If there isn't a halfway cut, go out, play and the best two scores will win. I assume there is a prize for gross and nett champion and so even if you have a poorish first round there is still a chance to get in the mix for the nett in the second round
