Clubhouse golf memorabilia

Guys,

Just sitting in the clubhouse yesterday I noticed in one of the trophy cabinets we have a scorecard from when Harry Vardon played Bude, which was quite interesting.

We also have a putter used by Tom Morris.

Just wondering if your clubhouse has any unusual or noteworthy golf memorabilia?

We have a bacon sarnie reputedly from the 1800's somewhere behind the fridge I think.

The Old Club Cup, the oldest trophy still competitively played for in the world.

I think it dates back to 1760.

We have medal collections from Alex Smith and his brother Macdonald, which include two US Open winners medals.
The insurance alone for these items is causing our club considerable financial heartache.

As my club is the 13th oldest in the world it has a lot of memorabilia on display in the clubhouse veranda but the link above shows you the oldest piece owned by the club and the history behind it.

We have some original invoices from Joseph Longhurst (first club pro) and play for the Longhurst Trophy and a few bits from Henry Cotton who was a member as a junior and played in the first ever British Boys Championship in 1921 held over the Ascot Heath. The only other stuff of note relates to our Royal patronage granted in 1887 and latrly from Prince Andrew who opened the new clubhouse and course. Not overly impressive compared to other clubs I'm sure

We have a cleek on the wall that was made by our first pro in 1890.

I was reading up a bit about Tom Morris as we have our Tom Morris comp starting on Sunday. Turns out he was paid 50 quid a year to be pro at St Andrews in 1862. For the upkeep of te course he was given only 20 quid. I bet most pros would love to be paid 2.5 times the budget for course upkeep these days.

we have many pieces of golfing history within our club from the early days of pro/am golf in st.andrews,but for me it`s tom morris jnr`s pocket watch that catches ur eye when u look in our memorabilia cabinet ..it`s immaculate..and heart warming that we have kept a hold of these pieces and there not hanging up in some wealthy american`s house..anyone who`s up for the open and want`s to see this and other`s (pm) me nearer the time ..cheers gcd

Along with the usual golf memorabilia, we have a framed collection on the main lounge wall describing two former members of the club who each won the Victoria Cross.

One was awarded during the First World war and the other during The Second World War.

What strikes me most is how young these men looked, and in fact, how young they were when they served their country during those conflicts.

A very sobering thought at times.

Good thread this, nice to hear what bits of golfing history are on display around the country. Sadly nothing of real interest at my club that I am aware of.

Out of interest, do the current crop of pros send bits back to display at their old clubs. I know the pros have always sent signed shirts etc back to their old rugby clubs and most have such items on display on the walls.

Seem to remember reading that Worksop has a little corner for Westwood. Not sure if thats true or not but would make sense

We had Barry Lane and Anthony Wall as juniors but apart from Lane playing to open the course we don't really recognise him or Wall. They get a mention in our history online and in our promotional material but no signed shirts of pictures.

We have a picture of Paul Eales in our main lounge as he was a junior member some years ago.

we just have a few photo`s of people who came to the club not much to look at,it is nice to look around the club house of some of the courses you visit to see what is about

i would find it hard to walk away form the war hero`s in that club house
