bit of advice needed please!

do Irons vary in length?? can you get a longer shaft fitted than the regular?

am organising a suprise party for a mates 30th and he really needs a new set of clubs (after coping with my hand me downs) - he's about 6"4 and looks very awkward with his current set and i think he needs longer clubs.
this something that can be done and what sort of length should i look for (anyone here a similar height!)

ps. before people mention getting him fitted - its meant to be suprise day... ie. i meet him at the range, take him into AG and give him a wad of cash to buy what he wants before we go for a round then have everyone meet us on the 18th for his surprise party! :)

I can see it is meant to be a suprise, but why can't AG fit him on the day for what he wants. He won't get it for a week or two, but it would be right for him. I am 6 2, and have +1/2" on my shafts, and 2° upright. This might not suit every one. Also, does he use stiff or regular, and bear in mind Project x come out very different to dynamic gold. They won't be able to adjust clubs on the day if they are not standard length / lie, as they order these in specially.

Really, c/f is the way to go, but lacks the 'hey, wow, I bought you this factor'.

If it was me, I would rather my mates gave me the cash / voucher to spend, but got c/fed with it.

I agree - a better surprise might be to get him a custom fitting session and the iron (C/F normally free if you order the irons on the same day). That way he will get something to suit his swing speed and build

I agree with both above. Custom fitting is great fun to be honest so why cant you just say, hey as a treat for your birthday were going to 'x range instead my treat' and when you get there say 'surprise its custom fit time' He'l love it because A) you get to try everything
B) you have a pro running around after you
c) You get to see what your really hitting and all the data to go with it
And then to add to the surprise you can say, O by the way, the irns you choose are being paid for by me.

You could always speak to the pro first and say, we only have a budget of x, y or z and he will only let him try these clubs out and find the best ones in your price range.

If someone did that for me I would be over the moon beleive me!
