Club Championships

Ours was yesterday and today. 36 holes over 2 days. Was won by Matt Murray, brother of Tom (current European tour) and son of Andrew Murray (seniors tour and ex European Tour). He shot a course record 65 to win it. Great golfing family and a nice lad to boot!

I think more older single handicapped players would enter if it was spread over 2-days as some have mentioned, any kind of 36 hole endurance falls in the lap of the more younger golfer, would be interested to know how many don't enter because its 36 holes in 1-day, I know a few at my club didn't enter because of that, good 6 handicappers also but well into 50's.

Ours has been postponed due to our county moving club knockout fixtures to the same weekend. Club re-arranged so that players wouldn't be disadvantaged.
Now got to try and get 36 holes in a day done...in September!

Played in my first one and finished 6th gross overall. Fairly happy but also a little frustrated as the winning score over 36 holes was 6 over gross and although very, very unlikely i'd manage to do that it was a lot higher than I thought would win it. I shot 80, 77 with 7 double bogeys which is always going to grate.

Played ours this weekend, after 27 holes of absolute carnage (including hitting 3 very destructive shanks) I played the last 9 quite well.
In the end I finished 12th.

Had ours yesterday. Have to say that I really didn't enjoy it. Struck my irons probably the best I have for ages, felt good and positive and couldn't buy a putt. I don't do club throwing or tantrums, but I just found it a grind, nothing to show for some really nice golf. I know that's how it is but still felt like a day on my bike or tinkering in the garage would have been more satisfying.

Had our first round yesterday with the final next Sunday...unfortunately (?!!?) I'm at The Open!
First 9 was only 4 over then the course bit back, ended up 1 over handicap but ok with that.

Hope the weather holds for the boys next week.

I missed out by 28! 30th overall, so just in the top third I expect. 36 holes, was won by a lad who shot level ish, which, doesn't sound very impressive, but weather was tough in the first round.

I know you said it wasn't for Nett scores but I couldn't help myself.

2nd place in ours yesterday with a -4 nett. Highly frustrating as I was -7 heading onto the 35th tee and had a shocker. What made it even worse is that I lost on countback.

But the positive to take was the first 18 holes being -7 and a nice cut to 14.0 from 16.4 and a pair of 2's adding to the 2nd place winnings

+4 won ours (72/70) by a scratch guy.

We had ours last weekend, didn't enter as I was on holiday but if I wasn't I still wouldn't enter as I have been playing very poor.

+5 won the scratch and this is the highest its been for a few years and the nett was won with +1

Because there is a 36 hole comp over the weekend with a cut. I'll tell the club before hand, they'll be fine.

There is a cup for best nett and gross on the sat as a stand alone comp.

I imagine your club is slightly different to mine. There's no pressure on places in the club champs, over 50% of our membership is senior, of which only a few will play.

Unlike you to jump to conclusions without being in full possession of the facts :o

never heard of this set up,club championship over 36 holes but with a 18 hole comp for one day and a cut after first day,now if you had said that in your post i would have had the facts.

Ours is this Saturday. 36 holes and I will have to play my best ever if I want to win. Our best player (+3) is the current champion and a month ago became the west of England county champion. I'm hoping to play well and maybe get closer to 2 handicap. If I can take .1 off on the day it will be a step in the right direction.

However, I am much closer to 4 than I am to 2

Our club champs don't work like that up here. 3 qualifying rounds with 2 best scores out of 3 counting to determine top 15 plus last year's champ who then play match play knockout over a week in August to find the club champ. And two comps side by side, gross and net champs with gross being the biggie of course.

Sorry to bump an old thread but didn't want to start a new one just for me.

Just had the M&H Secretary in touch, I've qualified for the knockout stages of the Handicap Club Champs, very excited!! :)

Ours this weekend. Out in handicap order, lowest first. Halfway cut after the first round and the top 60 play the following day in order (lowest first day score out last). Prize for the lowest gross (and club champion) and a nett prize. I like the addition of the net prize as 95% of the field have no chance but it gives everyone something to play for but the best gross score gets rightly recognised as the champion

ours is this weekend. 36 holes in one day, both a net and gross comp. top 16 gross scores go through to the knockout stages played over next weekend( final Sunday afternoon)
I won the net comp last year.
20 over for 36 holes should be enough to get to the knockouts.

Forecast is for heavy rain all day Sunday. I hope that changes!
