The last 3 weeks have been phenomenal. I've found the game to be, quite frankly, easy. I've put in some seriously good rounds of golf and I have been rewarded.
The Clause 23 cut put me down to 5.7. That was after 5 rounds well below SSS (nett 65,64,63,63 and 57).
That made me happy.
Then a Supplementary card went in and that's cut me to 5.2.
Category 1 - I've made it - much whooping and jumping for joy.

Then today I go and chuck in another Supplementary card. Why not I thought, I'm playing well.

69 shots later (1 under par gross) and I'm signing for a nett 64 - that's 5 under SSS so another .5 of a shot will be slicing it's way off the handicap by the weekend.
4.7
I'm going to be off 4 point bloody 7..............

God I love this game.

What are doing man throwing shots away beofre Goswick????? You nuts :D

Only joking of course. Fantastic news my man! THIS is why we play. HOW LOW CAN YOU GO :D Scratch by xmas! :D

That's a proper handicap that is. Well done. You are certainly playing some cracking golf.

Still don't agree with supplementary cards, but then that's me. To me, the pressure of doing it in a comp is part of the whole handicap thing.

I had 13 rounds in a row in Feb/March where my worst score was 8 over, and the best was 3 over. No comps, no cuts. Probably just as well as the purple patch did not last long.

Keep it up.

Congrats Ian!

Ive been playing well since the Grove, but the SS at my course is sh*te at the moment, a +3 round, 4 under my handicap was awarded with only a .2 reduction. :( others that were 2 or 3 under have been 'buffer zone'. not cool!

Keep it going!

Are you sure? My lasting memory of our last round together is you fatting your 7 iron about 6 inches on your approach shot into the 18th at Blackmoor (from the 10th fairway no less!!).

DOES NOT COMPUTE! :D

Seriously though, nice work mate. That's some quite ridiculous cuttage in such a small space of time!

Ahh but you forget the next shot My Young Padawan....
Same 7 iron to 6 feet and a sunk putt........ :D :D

Well done fella.

Does this now mean that you give your younger, better looking and slimmer brother even more shots now? :D

He's older and uglier but I'll give him the slimmer bit...

Can you believe it's a shot a hole in matchplay now!
Guess what we're not playing over the Winter.... :D

I'm with Murph on this, just don't understand why anybody would want to get there handicap down, using general play cards.Maybe i'm a little out of touch with handicapping procedure, having been away from the game for 3 years, but i didn't think a Cat 1 player could have his handicap adjusted, except by competition cards,or by the County ?
If your golf is Cat 1 standard, then you'll get down regardless.

And who knows, maybe your short game has improved too ;)

12 GIR hit today, missed just 1 par scramble and sunk a mile of putts. Only 2 birdies but 2 birdie-lip-outs and another that stopped 1/2 inch short - could have been another 66.. :D

The rules on Supplementary cards changed recently and now Cat1 players can put them in.
My problem is being a Midweek member I don't get to play too many qualifiers. I reckon 7, maybe 8 this year spread from March to November. Not exactly regular.
And at the end of the day if I'm playing this well I have a duty to everyone else I play against to play from a fair handicap.

Thing is, I would say 7 cards a year in comps is not unusual. I don't play more than that.

If you only put in supplementary cards when you are in a purple patch, you would only ever come down.

Any body who goes through a poor bit of form who starts bunging in loads of supplementaries is going to draw comments.

A two edged sword really, and better dealt with by not allowing supplementaries unless you have not put 3 cards in.
