My clubs leave me with grubby hands as they get sweaty towards the end of a round.
This no doubt is probably pointing towards getting a re gripping job done. However it could also be a build up of general dirt and crud from plenty of golf.
Has anyone given their grips a good scrubb, if so
does anyone have any tips for the best stuff to use for this particular job?
Cheers

I clean mine at least once month as a whole set and clean my 8-wedges almost every week. The dirt and oil not only impacts on the grip but breaks down the rubber. Warm soapy water and a flannel works great for me.

Thought you had 8 wedges in your bag for a mo there Tiger - Bob would have a field day with that.

I use warm water, washing up liquid and an old washing up brush. Probably don't do it as often as I should.....

I sometimes give them a go over with swarfega, working it in to the grip before flushing it off. It gets virtually everything cleaned out and they feel great afterwards.

Yeah but I bet it stinks afterwards.........

A second hand driver I bought when starting out had grubby mouldings in the handle, so I got an old toothbrush and some toothpaste to give it a scrub, all the nice white painted lines at the bottom of the mouldings re appeared and my hands smelt minty fresh for weeks!!

Cheers for the answers so far.

i have just done all my clubs ready to be put away till next year (hopefully) and used a hand held steam cleaner the results are brilliant and the crud that came of the grips was unbelievable, they are like new and tacky.

I'll try that. I have a steam cleaner......

+1 for the steam cleaner HID has just got one and when I got it out she thought I was going to give the dunny the once over, 14 grips later and not only are they clean they are tackier than when new......sod the crapper they are great for grips.

I have to concede to the steam cleaning method.
This evening HID asked me to dig out the steam cleaner and I remembered what had been said on this thread.
A quick test blast on my 4 iron and the dirt poured off the grip and it felt a lot tackier when I had finished, it also dried in a couple of minutes. It still had a bit of a sheen left on it so I blasted it again and rubbed it vigorously with a towel. WOW! It felt like a new grip.
I then blasted all the grime out of the grooves, the number and the cavity on the back. I have never seen the club looking and feeling so good.
The whole bag has had the treatment and I'm looking forward to trying them out for real tomorrow in the rain. HID is over the moon that I won't be cleaning my clubs in the kitchen sink anymore to boot.

Another vote for the steam cleaner. Great for both the grips the heads and to get the crud out of cavities. Combine with a can of duster gas from £land to help force any water left in the cavity and I'm your uncle.

Bloody Hell Andy! Did you have to borrow a neighbours Tin Mining Helmet and Lamp to dig this thread up from the depths of the forum!! I have seen it on a football forum I frequent when someone is proving a point. but trawling back 11 months on here must have equated to a round of Golf!!

I also dragged out the steam cleaner (on, ahem, long term loan from my Dad) after I had started this thread and seen the recommendation, like you I have nice "like new" tacky grips. At Vale do Lobo earlier this summer there was a lady next to the buggy park under one of those Chips in your windscreen type gazebos offering a Sonic golf club cleaning service there was small print saying that the process would not damage your clubs, I hasten to add that the wooden box with various holes in did look a little like the Emperors new clothes.
