Clean air zones

The accelerator on the Zoe is extremely sensitive and there is much less feedback to help judge the speed, yet still I can do it with relative ease. If you struggle then perhaps it really is your ability. Almost everyone rates their driving as above average but that’s not how averages work.
It’s the same with manners .
Like not insulting people you have never met.!

The thing with averages is some people blow their own trumpets to much as well. That’s how they also work!

Suggesting you can’t control the speed of your car as easily as others can isn’t really insulting, is it? You’ve offered a reason why you can’t (gears) and I’ve merely suggested you maybe just don’t have the ability to. It’s a reasonable thing to say. As for insulting, was your comment on my partner’s choice of car meant to be a friendly pointer?

Cheeky prick.
in a manual car it’s easy but in a DSG it’s a nightmare.

My car is constantly changing from 3rd to 4th and back because it’s to slow.
If your car has paddles or another "manual" override then you can use that to stop the constant shifting. Big engined cars will struggle with this more than smaller ones.

I have a 3L turbo with a ZF autobox and can get it to 4th at 20. This make control much easier.

Not many manufacturers offer speed limiters in anything but their top level spec.

HUD is a brilliant device for not flicking eyes up and down to the speedo. But again, very few manufacturers offer HUD and when they do it's with a higher spec. It was standard in the 8 series, but in the 340 I needed the Technology Pack to get the HUD.

No it’s a well known fact EVs don’t have gears they deliver power very smoothly.
I have been a professional driver all my life and would not make such a claim on how you do your job.

Auto boxes are not the same animal.
Modern cars are just not designed to cruise at 20mph. Although a Zoe might be I havnt had the pleasure.
My daughters Merc is flashing lights to change gear at her.

my main reason against this is ICE cars use so much more fuel in lower gears because they rev higher In lower gears.
So much for the clean air.

You need to remember that a Zoe is on par with a dodgem and would struggle pulling the skin off a rice pudding

The thing with speed limiters is if you need to get out of the way of something sharpish it can hold you back, they are dangerous at low speeds imo.

I use the ACC if I need to run a constant speed ,but again it takes control from the driver.

Never had a Head Up but they do look good.

As I said before my comment was more about fuel and fumes at low speed .
How many MPG in yours in 4th gear?

HUD is superb. When I got the 340 I called it a gimmick and derided it.
Then when I orders the 8, dirt thing I asked was does it have HUD 😂.

I only get around 29mpg in general in the daily driver (nobody needs to know the track car mpg 😁😁).

It’s not ideal at 20 but it’s more controllable getting the car in to 4th, then I don’t need the limiter.

Mines got seven gears and the car is asking me to speed up please.
Flashing lights and arrows everywhere.
It’s so over engineered it’s a computer on wheels.
Takes me 10 mins to turn all the bloody things off before I drive away.
But everything defaults back to on when you remove the key.

ZF is an eight speed box. In auto it will stick to 3rd if in Eco or Comfort modes and only 2nd in sport or sport plus modes. But having the option to override this by using the “manual” option means I can get in to 4th at 20.

If you support 20 mph zones, you are according to Clarkson a 'leftie' (sorry, no politics here).
But are you right to be a leftie?
Means fewer deaths and lower fuel consumption.
Guess I am.
Might mean less deaths!
But I would question the lower fuel consumption.
All cars use more fuel in lower gears.!

Appreciate its biased web site but must be based on something

Many people think that driving at 20mph lowers fuel economy. Yet research shows that for many cars a steady 20mph is the most efficient speed if you can keep it steady. Indeed at 20mph many cars will achieve fuel consumption better than 90mpg. But what changes things is in an urban environment where you are consistently slowing down for obstacles, lights, junction and congestion and then having to speed up again.

Don’t care about fuel consumption or cleaner etc etc

The crucial bit is it’s safer for pedestrians

You are twice as likely to be killed being at 30 than you are at 20

And it’s only 10% chance of being killed at 20mph

Sat in the Sheraton hotel next to Heathrow airport looking out of the window. The road next to the airport is in the ULEZ zone. About a good forum drive and wedge away is a runway with a big airliner landing every 60 seconds. Do the airplane exhaust fumes know not to leave the airfield? ULEZ is just another tax on motorists.

Liverpool is littered with potholes and speed bumps.
The chances of steady are not good.

Yeah with that going back up to 20 instead of 30 would defo be more fuel efficient
Yes it might be but it’s really bad for your tyres and suspension.

To be honest most residential streets by me are 20 now anyway.
But can’t understand if it’s 20 mph why do they need speed bumps as well.

I have done some math for my commute. In ideal conditions, green light all the way and sitting on the limit all the time, I could do the commute in 40 minutes last month. With Cromwell road now being 20, the main roads being proposed to drop from 40 to 30, the math says it takes me 49 minutes. Cromwell is accounting for 2 of those.

I guess the main factor is still going to be the traffic lights and how well I can filter through on the bike everywhere. I never filter at high speeds anyway.
