Just watching a few highlights from the majors. It seems as if there are very few players who like to show their character whilst playing or in between rounds. They mainly seem boring!

Just watched highlights from round one of the Kapalua PGA event, a player buckets a wedge shot from off the green and just puts his hand up and moves on.

I wish there was a little more character, good or bad!

Have you seen the videos made by Fowler, Bubba, Ben Crane and ? (can't remember the 4th guy)? Bit daft and stupid but at least they show these guys have a sense of fun sometimes and can laugh at themselves. Worth a quick search on youtube

I think it was Hunter Mahan, I am more on about on the course and in the interviews, yes these guys are in the zone. But they are humans!

If they display "character" then someone else will pick up on that and slate them for it - no win situation

They are coached to not have highs or lows. Keep everything on the level. Sad but they are doing their day job.

Don't know aobut it's the same in men's golf (but I suppose so), but Christina Kim writes in he "Swinging from the Heels" how she has been repeatedly warned and fined about use of "inappropriate" language or displays of temper. Dress codes are very tightly regulated as well. And I would guess that on top of the organizing authoritise, sponsors will also have a keen interest that "their" players don't do anyhting that could be perceived as outrageous, inappropriate, tactless or insensitive by somebody. Which results in everyone giving their best to stay under the radar most of the time. Just remember how much flak Danny Willet got for something not even he, but his brother had said on Twitter. All that does not leave much room for "character", I suppose.

But what about the good character, players like Daly used to interact with the crowd whilst playing, you don't get it anymore. They are robotic and it comes across in interview.

I think it is difficult to separate that. When you are under that much scrutiny, and everything you say and do is judged by your sponsors and the media, I guess it is pretty difficult to just be yourself and interact naturally with people.

True!

That's why I love Rory, speith, stenson and co - they show what it means!! Rory is the best - He's just like a kid playing golf at the local! When Rory canned that on the Tour Championship he was buzzing! Amazing to watch!

I carried the scoreboard at the British Masters for a group that included Andy Suillivan. He is a very bubbly character, and took a big following round with him.

Seems like a good guy, watched the Mark Crossfield thing with him playing. He does seem like phone. Always thought Chris Wood seems like a laugh too!

I think Andy Sullivan is a great character and can/could draw a bit of personality out of the dullest of players if he was playing with them, great attitude and is really good for the game IMO.
