A few of the rads in the house were cold at the bottom during the winter when the heating was on so assume there is some sludge down there.
I'm thinking of either (a) taking them off and flushing them out the old way or (b) Paying someone to powerflush the whole system.

Has anyone had this done and how much would it cost ?

What type of system do you have? Combi or boiler and tank in a airing cupboard?

Anything between £400-550 is reasonable.

its a combi.

Guess its more convenient than taking all the rads of the walls but thats a lot more than I was expecting, thats a new set of irons FFS.

I've removed rads from the wall and flushed them through in the garden before and it has been a success , but only short to mid term , during the winter i had the system powerflushed and the rads are so hot now , also balanced the system which needed doing , the plumber is a family friend and did it for £200 ,which is very cheap . He did say that he didnt get a massive amount of sludge out , but it certainly made a difference.

average cost of a proper 5 hr power flush including chemicals should be around the £450-£600 range depending on system, factor in the additives when the system refilled and i would advise having a magnetic filter fitted to the system this cleans the system as the water flows through it,should cost no more than £700 for average 6 rad system, but a word of caution some system cant be power flushed and are only suitable for chemical flush.
