Can someone reccomend me a ball?

I started using the bridgestone RX last week as recommended for slower swing speeds "fantastic". Im off 25 and found this to be a nice ball for all my shots.
First round with new ball 4 under my h/cap will be breaking 90 soon. Used the same ball for 2 rounds now and not a mark on it.Worth every penny.

The Trispeeds get a vote from me. I also caught Paul OH using them at Ascot. They'e a nice compromise between low driver spin and feel, as well as being a 3 piece ball for slower (amatuer) swing speeds.

Bob.

The Pro V1 might be the 'best' ball. But as others have pointed out, it not only comes down to cost, but also swing speeds, compression and side spin.

To use an analygy from my previous pastime. It would be like a weekend sailor using hi-tech carbon laminated sails, when he can't even set standard dacrons (polyester) correctly. Cost difference, at least 3 to 4 times more expensive for the carbon jobbies, and we're talking thousands of pounds, not £35 for a pack of Pro Vs.

I see you can get the practice ones for less than 20 quid...I am led to believe that these are perfectly good balls but Titleist cannot sell them as proper balls due to the issue with the patent and money....

Pro V1 is by far the best ball any golfer - FACT!!

Just don't go near the Taylor Made burner balls, they are utter tosh!

For that money mate you gotta go with the DX2. Go back to the Warbirds in the winter when you aint going to get any spin and just want distance.

Ended up buying the TaylorMade Burner balls and didnt notice you knocked them till i just read this.

I got in to american golf and something drew me to the TM's, possibly the shiny silver box.

Anyway, played yesterday with them and shot 91, 40pts off 27. Handed in the card for handicap adjustment.

I actually liked them, got decent length, didnt slice any drives (could have just had a good day with the driver) but most of all i found them excellent round the greens and with the putter.

Agree with all of the above. I've been using them for the last few weeks and find I get good length off the tee, straighter than usual and good feel around the greens and off the putter. Definitely my number 1 ball of choice now.

Srixon Soft Feel is an ideal ball.
I concur.

??? I DON'T concur at all.

The Green Srixon is a desperately short ball for my swing...noticeably off the pace of AD333 or W/S Dx2

Anyone else have a comment one way or t'other??

I'm sold on the Nike Vapor just now.....suits me really well (90-95 mph driver speed).

I bought a sleeve of Srixon Soft Feel balls a couple of months back, following a recommendation from a mate, and I hated them. Have since given them to him!!

Srixon Soft feel is pants, I can get it to perform, but does not feel soft in the true overall sense..

As for TaylorMade Burner, its not the best, much prefering the Burner-Tp which is worth the couple of quid extra, but the standard burner is not a bad compromise for those liking something a little harder yet still giving some control, though tbqh you can get similar performance & control with Callaway warbird for half the price.

Oh & for anyone who like the Srixon (suposed) Soft Feel should try the Bridgestone Treosoft. Very similar in that its a suposedly soft ball that isn't really as soft as it perports to be, though its marginally better than the Srixon Soft feel.

Id go for the Taylormade TP Red, ot Burner TP in preferance. DX2 ball is okay once you get used to the odd dimple design, not sure about the other wilsonstaff balls.
Bridgestone B330RX or Srixon Z-URS/C is a worthwhile investment.

I do think it strange that Srixon are fading out the Z-URS/C balls in favour of the Z-Star/x as both could quite happily co-exist in the market as they are really so different in feel.

The Srixon soft feels unresponsive of the driver face and is at least 15 yards shorter than other balls like the NXT or the AD333. It doesn't perform well off irons, especially short irons, and feels dead at impact. It putts ok but is not the best ball in its price bracket

I'm guessing that Minty's referring to the Burner TP balls too, given his reference to the 'silver box'. It's certainly the Burner TP that I'm using and am very impressed with.

Del, Cernunnos, Homer......thanks......you saved me from justifying my critism.

SAVE ME FROM THE CHUDSTER :D

Bought some z-stars last week. Played about 6 holes with 1 in the week and thought they felt very heavy off the driver face. Wierd?????

I was hitting the ball poorly so will start a fresh this week. Feel good off the putter.

Tony,

I tried the Z Star (not the Z Star X model) last couple of days and it has been quite nice off the driver and irons. I felt it was very nice around the greens and with the putter.
It certainly seems as good as my normal choice of TM TP Red.

I dont think I middled one off the driver so thats why it felt wierd i wreckon.

Have had a little blast around the greens, and the office with them. They certainly feel good.

Our greens are becoming difficult to hold now and apparently, they will get a hell of a lot harder very soon. I hit a good wedge into the 18th and the ball took 1 bounce and stopped dead. Just wonder how well they will hold up!

How about accuracy Tony?

The reason why I don't go all out for a premium spin ball is the concern that wild shots might get even more wild!

Surely you can't have backspin (for drives and short game) without side-spin too?

Thats true Dave, I pulled a drive so couldn't really tell you, it was going to go left regardless.

I hit a few mid irons that seemed to draw nicely nothing drastic. Pulled up well with short pitches, I was having to pitch further than half way with the PW cause it was stopping so quickly.

Now i'm confused!

Right i'm going for the bridgestones and as my club stocks them i'll ask my pro what bridgestones he thinks will be best for me.

Surely Bridgestone know more about rubber than all the other golf brands put together......

BUT Dunlop have made tyres for years and they still make rubbish golf balls.

At one time Dunlop were Market leaders for Golf balls. Over recent years they've had little to recommend them. Though the DDH were not all bad I supose for a hard ball.

That is until they reserected the "65" ball. Now that's a ball worth playing. Almost gives you pride in playing a Name from the past. Just hope Dunlop realise they have a potential winner in the new reserected version of the "65" Ball.
