Tomorrow I'm at a wedding vow / wedding party. Starts at 1pm. It is a friend of my wife who is having the do. It's at a golf and country golf and I've discovered the golf part has a bar with Sky tv showing "football, golf and other sport". Now, at 4pm Everton are playing Leicester, Masters coverage then takes over around 7.30. How much would you chance?

Everton are my team, who wouldn't want to see the final round of The Masters in a golf bar? Do I go for both, sacrifice one or dip in and out. Clearly missing both and staying entirely at the reception is not an option 😁.

I know the obvious answer is watch them both in full but is that being unfair on my wife and the couple who invited me, but failed the intelligence test of checking the sporting calendar? Thoughts?

Been there before - forget the footie - expect you will be eating then anyway

All in for the Golf when the disco is on and no-one misses you

I don't dance so it saves the inevitable "no thanks. Yes I'm fine. I don't like dancing. No really, I don't. I'm happy just here".

A responsible first reply 👏

Neither, spend the day/night by the wife's side and build up the brownie points for later in the year ;)

In the 1960's I was once a guest at the wedding of a well know Scottish golf pro which was disastrously held on the same day as the Scotland v England fitba match.
The main lounge was very quiet for 90 mins whilst the packed wee TV room was pretty noisy.

Be upfront with your better half and ask if its ok to see the last 20mins of the footie, in effect you're saying I'm willing to miss the first 70mins. I'll leave you to formulate the right words that you will know generally work.

The golf doesn't really get going till the last 4 or 5 groups get to Amen Corner. By then there'll be enough guys who've had enough of being nicey, nicey, and you'll be able to dip in and out at will. You may even find, as I've experienced, that you and missy + another couple might want to be sat comfortably in the bar rather than on uncomfortable dining chairs.

The real question is will the marriage last. no coz the selfish bride booked a wedding when the football and final round of the masters is on.
reminds me of two weddings I went to in one night, one at Rufford golf club and one at the Brown cow. The one at the Brown cow cost about £20 for the reception. At one point there as five of us in the reception room. One was me and one was the DJ. Missis T was angry with me coz I had a skin full and had the biggest bowl of cheesy wotsits in front of me and was sticking one up me nose to see how far I could snot them onto the " dance floor". There was about twenty on the floor before she caught me. Furthest went about ten yards.
The big posh wedding at the golf club, I said to Missis T it won't last, she was looking down her nose at her husband. A year later they split up.

So LT, have you had a snog with the bridesmaid yet, had a skinful, snuck off to see Everton batter Leicester. Bet it's the best wedding you have been to yet. Managed to beat my record with the wotsits.
Whatever, gorgeous weather to get hitched.

Tashy, mixed feelings. Wedding was very pleasant, weather gorgeous, venue decent. Downsides, we ate late so I missed the whole match. I checked the scores on my phone and the goals kept going in. Six goals and I haven't seen one yet. At 7.30 my son and I snuck out to watch the Masters in the golf club bar. Huge tv, comfy seats, sorted. Except they closed up at 8.15 😡. I'm not a dancing person so I persuaded my kids they were tired and could go back to the hotel 😁. So we left a bit early, 9.30 ish, and I'm watching the golf now. Wife's happy as she can gass with her friends, she knew I didn't know anyone there, and not feel guilty.

No temptation on the bridesmaids front, leg tattoos don't do it for me.
