Anyone else had a problem with these balls splitting?

I bought a batch at the end of this year for this summer, have used about 3 dozen to date and have 8 on my desk at the moment that have split and a Id already thrown a couple away.

Ive not seen a golf ball look like this since the good old days of the balata ball, literally look like the old smiles with the cover completely split/cut through

I've been using them for the last few months and have found them pretty durable. I've scuffed a couple recently but I think that's from hitting trees. No splits in any though.

I generally get a couple of rounds out of one of these and have been stocking up on them recently.

I Think these balls are exceptional, I'll get a couple of rounds out of one if I play well before losing it.
I don't think there's a premium ball on the market that can withstand a few perfectly struck wedge shots without marking up.

I tend to agree up until this. Im not talking about marks I expect to get them but these dont seem to scuff much at all, Im talking about being able to see through the cover and into the next layer of the ball, i can put my finger nail in under the outer layer where they have split

Have sent Callaway an email will see what they say, if it has been 1 or 2 I wouldnt be fussed but its 10 or more so far and ive still got 3 dozen to use!

I've had one split on me Steve so would be interested in what Callaway say.

My swing speed is much less than yours mind you so maybe that's why I'm not cracking too many :smirk:

If I was Calaway I would want them back to find out what's happening.

I'm sure they would replace them all as well, possibly +++

I'm getting hooked on the Chrome Soft at the moment; they do mark up of trees through 😢

Well I sent them back 11 split balls (and have done 3 more since).

Got an email from them today saying that they dont see it as a fault but dents caused in the urethane cover caused by external contact. They go on to say that covers have become softer and that they can be susceptible to these sort of cuts.

Theyre sending me a dozen chrome soft to try which is decent of them. That said I dont have this problem with any other premium ball (pro v1, z star, b330 etc) and havent done since the old fashioned balata. If thats the way balls are going for me at least its definitely a backwards step. At current prices Im not buying a premium ball that can be ruined with one iron shot, whether a little thin or not!

Ah - I still have a load of professional 100 that managed to get ruined by that iron shot early in their life (in the practice bag). 5 new balls a round seems the norm in those days - any bunker shot would embed sand grains and even if you hit it well you could knock it out of round!
Things have moved on - but I agree with you that the manufacturers need to meet the new paradigm rather than just beat the old ones.
Enjoy the chrome soft - I was really pleasantly surprised.
