Hi all,
well, my Matchplay final is looming this sunday afternoon, and I'm looking forward to it, - lost in the same Final last year so looking to make amends.

However, got a txt from a lad I have played with regularly today, asking if I wanted to play in the medal on Sat too, which I said yes. He's off +1 so its always a pleasure and inspiring too.
But - he mentioned that he's supposed to be caddying for my opponent for the final - which I dont like the idea of tbh. :(

Matchplay should be matchplay as far as I am concerned, one against one, and with your head to overcome too, so playing him (off 5) with the added distraction of the Club's Best golfer alongside is a distraction I can do without really.

is it me, ? should I just ignore and get on with it ?

:D

or, get your own caddie.

If the rules allow them, then you should look at getting one - it is always good to have someone to sound off at or discuss a shot with :)

Having a Caddy is great. No carrying or pushing or pulling, no club cleaning - assuming they do it properly!

It leaves you free to concentrate on the shots
If you can I'd get soeone to do it.

Hope your opponent in the final, has not got him to play with you to check your form out before the big match ;)

Must admit it can feel like two against one sometimes. I would get my own caddie.

Do both! What you cant'd do anything about, don't worry about!

Like the others have said, get your own caddy, it's good to play like a Pro and if you want someone to help read your putts etc go for it!

Good luck!

Try and get a caddy yourself. That way you won't sub-consciously think it's 2 v1 all the time and you'll be more relaxed about the whole thing. At the end of the day the guy called have Steve Williams on the bag but if he knocks it into the deep stuff it doesn't matter who's carrying the bag. If you don't get a caddy accept the situation and let the golf do the talking

The guy I played in the final used a caddy , who funnily enough is a mate I play regularly with in the week. It didnt and doesnt bother me in the slightest. I'm used to playing with plenty of people watching as are a lot of the low h/c players on here who play a lot of scratch league stuff.

It really doesnt matter and tbh it will probably put him off more as he isnt used to having a good player on his bag. Use it to your advantage and get on with it

I wouldn't worry about it, if I were you. If you can get someone to caddy for you, then great but it's not a big deal.

I think you've got enough course knowledge to get yourself round without much trouble.

Plus, if you lose, you can blame your lack of a caddy and, if you win, you've got the bragging rights of beating him and his caddy.

Dont worry about it, just play your game, caddies are good if you have ground rules, I had a caddy in our ulster cup match earlier this summer, friend of mine off single figs. we were playing our 9th and opponant hit the trees and lost ball, I had 220 to green on par 5, he insisted i play 4 iron to play safe, so I did, not my normal shot you see, would normally hit hybrib to the green, or maybe a 8 iron to leave a wee pitch, anyway, hit 4 iron, into the s''t and halved the hole, if you get a caddie, just make sure he is just there for company and to clean your bats! :)

That's one of the caddy's jobs, take the blame for your bad shots!!

Even if I trust my caddy's judgement I always say to them not to volunteer info, if I am unsure about a club or a line I will ask them. It's not as though you are together regularly enough (like tour caddies) for them to know what shot you are looking to hit.

Another thought, turn it into a positive if you end up playing on your own. He won't be used to it, it may put extra pressure on him and may well cause conflict in his head and indecision when the +1 caddy makes everything sound so easy etc etc. You, on the other hand, are just playing your normal relaxed game !!

I agree, he may try to impress his caddy by taking risks he may not normally take, especially as his caddy is better than him.
Play your own game and you'll be ok.
