OK here goes..... I've just come back from a fitting at Ping Gainsborough and I'm now ready to order a brand new shiny set of G20 irons.... so should I -

1. Go with the local shop that set up the fitting for me (I did this over the phone and don't know them)

2. Go with my club pro (I will be giving him the chance to price match at worst)

3. Ring around and play everyone against each other and go with the best price.

I'm a sales manager and boy does it feel good to have the shoe on the other foot for a change as everything today is price driven, loyalty and good customer service counts for nothing.

Gamekeeper turned poacher spings to mind!

Lots of prople will say go with your pro,me well I work hard for my money as I'm sure you do so I owe it to myself to get the best deal possible for my quid. I'd say get the best price then by all means ask your pro to match it if he can. Above all get the best deal you can though.

Go and get fitted properly first then see who offers the best price. If your pro is at your local course at least see if he can get near the shops price.

Read the OP again.

Cheapest wins for me.

May I ask how you found the Ping fitting? I'm dying to get down there myself for a fitting

Being a big Ping fan it was great just visiting Gainsborough Golf club (Ping owned) and seeing the complete Ping range with all the differnt options they can offer at the fitting center but the fitting itself wasn't any different to the fitting I had at the Mizuno fitting center a couple of weeks ago at Clays Golf club in Wrexham which is just 2 mins from my house.

You go through the same routine of being measured and then hitting balls down the range whilst they track, measure and analize it all (I think it's the same equipment used at both Ping & Mizuno - the end results they show you appear to show the same information - club speed, ball speed, crush factor, side and back spin, carry, total distance etc).

Best part for me was visiting the club shop and having a good nose around (they had some real bargains on recent or soon to be discontinued lines - G15 drivers, 3 woods & hybrids - Tour W wedges - hats/caps etc)

OK so the clubs are ordered but where from????

1. Go with the local shop that set up the fitting for me (I did this over the phone and don't know them) - Called them 4 times and they never got back to me with a price!

2. Go with my club pro (I will be giving him the chance to price match at worst) - Told him what I wanted and he's getting me a price.

3. Ring around and play everyone against each other and go with the best price - Tried everywhere on 'tinternet that were advertising G20's and got the best price by phone with Carnoustie Golf Shop.

And the winner is......... My club pro matched the Carnoustie price and so the irons are on order and I can't wait :D
