Busted. A Cheat Caught

All I know is that when I redid my years registration with the Information Commisioners Office I thought I would read through what businesses had to register all for data protection.
There in text it states that any business who has CCTV has to (by law) register with the ICO for data protection REGARDLESS of whether that business needs to register without CCTV.

call it $30 per time. 3 times per week. Might play 50 weeks per year if you're keen...

That's $4500. Per year. Every year the scam lasts. Not so trivial.

Sad but necessary: I do feel that many of these cheating issues could be avoided if cash prizes were just eliminated. These are amateur compeititions for fun after all - why are they even required?

It says in the op one of the members did it without anyone knowing.

So is the club at fault?

If it were in this country, the club could well be held accountable and possibly even punished.
As it's written, if youre recording the public you have to register.
They same applies to people who have CCTV on their property. You need to have signs saying you have it, otherwise you could leave yourself open to trouble.
I was told that when I put CCTV up in my rear garden.

We have draws for all our comps so it takes away the possibility of mates playing together and cooking up a similar scam. We play for 2's which is £1 a person so hardly a pension pot and at least with random partners the chances to manipulate getting one is reduced

I would imagine that the club already has CCTV for security purposes, so as they should be registered they would be allowed probably to have those cams on the greens where they want.

Heard about a club in Spain getting lots of holes in one on one par three.

Uphill so you can’t see the green from the tee.

CCTV showed a cat from the nearest Villa shoving the ball in the hole and running away.

If I were to own a golf course I think a camera on each green and on each tee box would be installed, with the pictures circling on a screen in the pro shop and/or bar. Getting people to treat those important areas with respect.

Would also help at night, we had a few posts here about vandalism, but not that many lately.

My club is actually thinking of getting cameras on all of the Par 3 and stream them back to the club house just to record the Hole in Ones.

We have been getting so many of late.

The thing where the club wins with money prizes is that the money won has to be spent in the pro shop or bar.

So comp entry is $10 each.
Winning each grade is about $150 (a,b,c,d womens) Second is $100, 3rd is $50 and then they refund entry down about 10-20 places depending on how many played.
NTP is 4 x $20-$45

But all that money is then spent in the club.

But the pro shop has a markup on everything. The bar they make a profit.

So whilst people might win $100 and spend $100, the club is the winner every way.

There's a (stupid) par 3 at Pinner Hill. 250 yards down a steep hill and the green is not visible from the tee. There were stories of the local yoof putting people's tee shots in the hole. Better than stealing the balls, I guess.
