Hi all, probably had many of these threads, just want to know your thoughts on best laser range finder(non slope) to purchase,I use a garmin s1 watch at the moment and want to be more precise as we will be playing winter greens and tees shortly, all becauseas I have got some birthday money to spend.:whoo:

I have a Nikon and I play a lot with Merv79 who has a Bushnell. Whilst the Nikon is great I think the Bushnell is better in poor light and drizzle/rainy conditions.

Tried both and the Bushnell was IMO a better range finder

I have a Nikon and it always reads 2yds more than anyone I play with that uses a Bushnell.

I guess it's mine that's wrong. I'll worry about it when I can hit within 2 yards at will.

I had a Bushnell V2
When we went to The Grove for the PowerPlay event a couple of years ago Nikon were trying to flog us their version
To me it didn't sit well in the hand. The V2 was the right size and shape, the Nikon had edges and didn't feel comfortable.
I'm sure it's a good bit of kit but if I was in the market again I'd go Bushnell.

I have the V3 and would certainly recommend it. I like the buzz it emits when it locks on to the flag - reassures that it's "hit it”

I got Bushnell 1500 pin seeker and has been excellent, I'm looking to upgrade to the V3 slope edition but need to know if the slope can be turned off so it can be used in competition play, and sell mine.

It cant be. If the unit has slope on it then it is illegal in comps (whether it can be turned off or not). Leupold make one that has a separate yellow cap you put on it to disable the slope function but this has been ruled illegal for comp use

According to drive4show a google search can answer anything, strange to see him adding something of moderate value.

Out of interest, on what basis are people suggesting one rangefinder is better than another?

I've had my Nikon (with Callaway branding) for what must be more than 5 years now. It's small and it lives in a small pouch attached to my bag. I remove it from the pouch, aim it at the flag, push the button and it tells me far I have to the pin. If I miss the pin which happens on occasion from longer distances, I simply repeat the process.

I'm not knocking Bushnell as I read it is something of a benchmark; just genuinely interested in the benefits I may experience if I were to upgrade.

I've been using the Nikon fro three years now and had no problems with it at all. The best way to use it is to loop your finger around the eyepiece and put your finger against the eye, it anchors better than trying to hold the eyepiece directly against the eye, which causes a bit if a wobble.

Bit late to the party but I gave had both brands and though the Nikon was better. Very happy with it and I assume the airport luggage handler who nicked it likes it too. The Bushnell I then got does not fix on the target as easily.

nikon over bushnell
waterproof
6x magnification (bushy is 'only' 5x)
goes through batteries at a much slower rate (approx. 1-a-year versus 3 or 4-a-year)
2 yr warranty (bushy is only 1yr)
30 day money back trial
designed to assist be-spectacled users
looks better (in my opinion) than either v2 or v3

bushnell over nikon
better case

i got the nikon based on the above, plus the fact i got 20% (£50) off it at the time. i'd prefer a better case. it's fine, but would expect something more solid.

I have a Nikon, my friend has a Bushnell. I'm not sure there is too muck in it but I went Nikon for the extra zoom and the target scan.

My friends Bushnell has gone through two batteries in 5-6 months

I have the bushnell v2...

Seems ok but sometimes even with the pin finder it struggles to find the flag....

Biggest frustration for me is when you have trees in the way or other obstructions and you have no way of getting a yardage...in hindsight I would of got a garmin / gps type rangefinder
