I'm having BT Infinity installed in a couple of weeks, they estimate up to 40 meg speeds now that they use fibre to the cabinet. I've been told to expect about 28 meg which for me is still a great deal better than the half a meg I've been getting.

Anyone have this already? What do you think of it?

I figured its rolling out everywhere and they seem to prioritising those further from the exchange first - which makes a lot of sense.

Not me .... Yet, I do know a dew guys who are getting close to max speed and around 7&8 mb up also. Great for uploading pics etc but not many sites would make use of the download speeds the connection is capable.

What's actually happening is those most densely populated areas are getting it and those areas which have a higher proportion of people further from the exchange (large swathes of Scotland for example) are being shafted as usual and don't even have a roll-out date yet (rollouts up to end of 2011 are already confirmed).

Me? Bitter? Nah!

We are moving everyone who is outside 2.2km to within that distance of an exchange, which as you can appreciate takes some time.

We get fast downloads you get cheap golf who's the winner? :D

PS it won't be too long and you'll be getting fibre to the home which is up to 100meg.

cheers thats what I thought, I live a long way from the exchange (over 2.2km) hence why I only get 400-500K.

28 meg is going to feel like heaven. :D :D

I'm in central Southampton and my roll out date is Sept '11. Some areas on the edge are getting this month. :(

I get 6-7 mb on an up to 20mb connection at the moment.

i live 6.9 km from exchange and get 700k at best.

On Infinity web site it cant find my post code so i phoned up and they said its not in my area.. Tho the guy 2 doors up is getting it install next week lol..

So i phoned up again and again answer was no not in your area "computer says no" So 3rd call I said i was the guy that lived in my house before myself Mr Jones who was a BT customer and guess what computer said yes and it was in my area.. lol

Not sure what was/is going on..

SO on the same call i then confessed I was not Mr Jones and that i was living in the house the past 2 years.. Guy then went to add me as a new customer and heres where i hit the wall again.. Computer says no again lol..

So plan was/is to get the line back to BT and then hope i can get this installed.. BT line goes live 18th... so watch this space lol.

My areas in the "voting war" to get added to the roll-out list, were not doing very well either :(. So failing that I expect a roll-out date of sometime between 2014-2018 because we always seem to be last to get anything in my area.
