Can't be bothered to disect the R&A rule book, so asking if anybody knows the rules regarding shaft length.
Would an Iron with a broom handle shaft and grip be legal in competition ?

Apart from putters, maximum length 48".

It was something i seen today.
No idea how long it was exactly (ooerr missus) but the club was basically a 7 iron with a broom handle shaft and grip.
I thought the chap was putting from 20 yards off the green, but on closer inspection i realised it wasn't a putter.
I don't have any problem with the club, or its use, its just something i hadn't seen before.

Sound an interesting contraption.

On the plus side it's a 7i not a chipper.
On the down side, he's made it into a broom handle.
:)

Either way, I'm sure I'd be rubbish with it.

A 7 iron is not allowed to have a putter grip on it.....

Most Broom Handle grips are round - so Ok.

It's not the 'putter' grip that's the problem, It's the Flat portion of many putter grips that's not allowed on irons.

I've practised using my Mizuno flihi 2iron as a belly chipper
It is very very good, similarly with a 5 wood

Too embarrassed to use it in real play, even though I have a belly putter these days
