British tennis player doing well

So Curtley Ambrose hurling a bouncer at Graham Gooch was finesse grace and artistry?

Absolutely! Goochie would have rocked back (with no foot movement...) and pulled Ambrose for six! If he decided to duck out of the way, the next ball would have been pitched up, moved off the seam and been unplayable.

Cricket is a proper battle between bowler and batsman. Pace or spin. Intelligence is required to play cricket.

Tennis - hit it as hard as you can. No talent needed there - just practice and muscle.

The refined sportsman you say? Hmmm - McInroe. Hardly a refined sportman.

"a game where finesse, grace and artistry will overcome brute force and stamina" - really? The Williams sisters. They've literally battered their opponents into submission with their brutal power.

Tennis is, for me, the MOST boring sport to watch on TV. It's all about power - simple as.

If you want finesse, grace and artistry then it's a test match that you're after. Not tennis.

Think you might have taken this out of context AW, I was actually comparing Squash V Tennis with Snelly. Unfortunately I could not find a tongue in check icon.

Not sure I would say that Merv Hughes would be a better example of finesse, grace and artistry than Roger Federer though, and whilst McEnroe may not have been refined, he was one of the true artists of the game.

I want to like Murray but his anti-Englishness prevents me from doing that. That said he's a great tennis player you cant dispute that, he might win a grand slam if he becomes mentally stronger. Technically he has it all, mentally he was some way to go.

What is your point Gopher?

My point is that there is no point to Squash, quite possibly the most senseless and boring ball game ever invented.Ask your average person on the street if they know who Andy Murray is and a good percentage will know he's a Tennis player, try the same with a Squash player and they wouldn't have a clue, and why is that ? because its a boring game and not at all spectator friendly.I'd rather beat my shins with a squash racket, that have to sit and watch it.

Having just watched the final of the Australian Open,i have to say that the man lost to THE MAN,Djokovic was awesome today and Murray should have no shame in losing a semi final to him.

I see. Well it is a poor point, badly made.

Certainly agree with these sentiments - though the one about Murray/shame was obvious to me on Friday!

Not a TV spectator sport and bloody tough on the body too. I know of 2 players (1 a world champion!) who were forced to stop playing before it destroyed their joints.

Best thing about Squash is that it's the only game where you can absolutely beat the living daylights out of the ball and while it might not be the best shot to play it can be a good one. Certainly not the best strategy in golf!
