British Masters TV coverage

Where are you staying mate ?
Driving up and down, as it is a good excuse to give the car a gentle run out.

Kristoffer Broberg was playing in our group, and this very nice lady was following him. Had a chat with her and found out she was his girlfriend, Camilla Lennarth, a Ladies European Tour player. She won the Slovakian Open in 2014, so a decent player. She gave me one of his golf balls.;)

I thought the coverage was excellent today. Innovations like the so-called "fairway tracer" - basically a mobile protracer that allows them to track approach shots rather than just tee shots was good. Miked up player, Dougherty, was an interesting experiment although they possibly didn't know exactly how best to use it without being too intrusive. Plus, of course, all day coverage largely uninterrupted (yes there were adverts).

The masterclass at end was great too, even if the main learning point was that Westwood can't hit a draw! :D Good on him for doing that though.

Bodes well for the Open next year!

Caught the end of the masterclass - enjoyed it

Not sure what happened with Dougherty but understand he wasn't best pleased with one of the commentators about something ?

I'll try and find you tomorrow mate but not sure if I will have time

It sounded like good work. Saw fairway tracer in the highlights just now and I like it. Not sure about miked up players and that surely won't be a regular thing?

Don't know about that. They had a chat with him while he was walking up to a green where he had a reasonable birdie chance, which he then missed. The commentator kept saying afterwards that he hoped he hadn't put him off but I didn't detect any annoyance from Dougherty over it. Of course, it might have been something else....

Certainly got to be something that needs to be iniated by the player maybe to ensure its at the right time for them ? Defiantly an interesting concept

The screens around Woburn were pretty impressive and Sky have done a lot of stuff over the weeks there - impressive crowds today.

Lucky enough to get a couple of free tickets from Sky. Beautiful day, stunning course and enjoyed following some of the top players round.

Been a few years since I've been to a Tour event and I had forgotten how few putts from outside 10 feet these guys actually hole. I know TV coverage is edited but I reckon we only saw 2 longer putts holed all day!

Makes me feel almost human.

I thought the concept of the masterclass was great, a fair bit too much 'fawning' over Westwood by the presenter (actually surprised he could even see Wetwoods shots from where is head was!)

Did they not do this for one of the American majors - miked up the players and their caddies? That was interesting. But had to apologise for wee swearies - which I find rather pathetic but there you go - there might be sensitive minors watching who've never heard 'damnit' spoken in anger.

What exactly did he say?

Did he explain what he was trying to do before he hit the shot. Or his plan for the hole.

Sounds really interesting.

It must have been something else because they mike him up and then disconnect it when hes finished talking,so if he didn't want to talk I don't think he would especially when walking up to the green.
Surely the best time is after his tee shot walking up the fairway.
I actually like the concept as I see no harm done.

It's more general chat about how he's playing, how he's finding the course, rather than any real specifics like that.

Interesting today because he's really struggling but still chatting away, being a bit philosophical but trying to be optimistic that he can still turn it round. (Don't think he can, incidentally, but he's cheerful enough)

Was also surprised to see Westwood unable to hit a draw or a hook with his driver. He tried it twice and both times hit a very slight fade, despite describing what he was trying to do and make it shape right to left. Westwood then said he would always try to play a draw when the hole was right to left, but it sometimes/often did not come off and he simply could not hook the golf ball. Made me think why even bother trying to play it and instead just boom those 300 yard+ slight fades down the left side of the hole!?

Another case of golfers trying to be too clever (eg. Kaymer changing his swing when #1 so he could shape the ball both ways) when I'm pretty sure if they just stuck at what they are obviously very good at the success would be greater than tweaking all the time.

Ah right

Not as juicy as I hoped. Sure it could put him off doing what I would have liked but could also be used to focus the mind.
