last year when we arrived I swear for free you got a map and a draw sheet.. didnt pay this time.. took a photo of the map at the side and just referred to that and the draw sheet printed off before we arrived

echo the thought on food.. £5.30 for a bacon roll for breaky... £9.90 for a bacon cheese burger and chips for lunch.. JESUS

the tour shop was VERY poor imo.. not many brands to pick between.. the grove stuff is costly and then there were things like titliest hats.. I thought cool ill get one it will have "the british masters" on there somewhere.. nope just a plain hat? erm ill order offline for half the cost then

What did you expect? Sports events have been charging over the odds for food and drinks for years now. Its hardly a new thing.

A fiver for a program is the going rate to be fair. I'm happy enough to pay that for a souvenir of the day.

If it's outside caterers then The Grove will be charging them a fortune to site their businesses around the course, obviously they have to amend their margins accordingly in relation to their costs!

thought it was cheaper at Woburn last year

The grove was better to walk round as lots of paths however Woburn had more 'wow' factor

Shame that Lee westwood is rumoured to be taking it to newcastle next year but then again cant always be down here.. would love to see it at the belfry

Yeah, it looks like an easy walking course. I did wonder who was due to host it next. Will be interesting to see where Justin Rose takes it in a couple of years time.

I think its westwood, almost positive

wearing the golf shoes this year was the best lesson learned from last year.. had better weather last year but still find it tough going in trainers.. bit slippery in parts but with the golf shoes nice solid footing everywhere and waterproof

Can anyone who's played The Grove tell me if they think it's value for money ? I'm quite sure that the clubhouse, facilities and course conditioning are first class but the course just doesn't look exciting or interesting to make me want to play it even though I'm not too far from Herts.

I played it 10 years ago, and thought it was a great course - we played it just after the WGC but it didn't look that impressive when I was there yesterday's

having now played some some of the premium/top 100 courses in Surrey - I don't think it is as good

They do a two for one on Mondays, and yes, it's worth it to me. I like it, but then it is on my door step, so I can forget about travel costs etc. It's always immaculate, and rarely busy.
Yes, I prefer Heathland, so would opt for that given the choice, but I would play the grove over the marquess, or centurion.

Well I love the Marquess Course as a great test of golf with good conditioning in a great setting, so if you rate The Grove even higher then that answers my question and I need to book a visit. Cheers.

The marquess is a slog, in a swamp. Defo do the two for one, or twilight. Full ticket at 170 is not a good deal at all. Oh, and play off the blacks, or maybe the next (whites?), but you do need to play the full length to get a true feel for the place. You get a choice, so use it! Also, wait until next spring, as it will be divot city now.

Really enjoyed yesterday. The village imo wasn't as good as Woburn but took a couple mates who loved it. Followed the Beef around in the afternoon got quite cold later and god trying to leave the car park at end of the day took 1 hour. Beef was loving the crowd.

Yes it will be at Close House next year
To be announced officially after this weeks tournament

It's located next village along from me, so I will attend at some point
But I personally think it will need some work, adaptation
Not really built for something of this size
Won't be huge viewing areas or grandstands the way it currently is

Has a driving range but hasn't got large grass area, practice ranges like most tournament courses

Traffic could be huge issue too

Hour to get from Luton to Grove thanks to our smart motorways, another 15 mins walk. Froze me guts off. But saw a bit of excellent golf.
Another hour to get from Grove to Luton goin home. Seems to me these " nice " courses get these tournaments cos there nice, but have no infrastructure whatsoever to support thousands turning up.
For those goin over the weekend, set off early and take plenty of snap and drink with you coz £6 for a grisel burger is " pants down catering".
Oh ah and wrap up warm.

The first hole, 10th normally is the only tight hole, couple of nice holes 12, 15 and that is about it. Rest just merge into each other. It is in immaculate condition, but understand it is not played much. Not surprising hearing what the green fee is. Not a patch on Bearwood Lakes for a newish course.

Went yesterday. Been a golf fan all my life, always loved watching but after 27 years finally went to my first live golf. What a great day (free too). Followed Westwood round and then Beef when he teed off. Great experience. Really makes you appreciate professional golf even more

I would agree, but others may not. i Really liked the Marquess. Nothing to do with condition, but just that it is a nicely designed course, with plenty of doglegs, elevation changes, and trees that require shots to be shaped around them if you are crooked off the tee.

I love both Woburn and the Grove, and for me the Marquess isn't even the best course on the Woburn complex! If I had to choose between the Marquess and the Grove, I think the Grove just shades it for me. Unfortunately haven't played Bearwood yet, despite the many offers from Paul. Looks like myself and Murph will be there sooner rather than later............!!!

Chris I am just commenting on the course and design, not condition. The Grove is too American for me, where as Bearwood and The Marquess suit their surroundings more. I have walked the Marquess twice with a scoreboard and can remember most of the holes. The Grove I have walked twice with a scoreboard, and can't remember hardly any of the holes. Great condition at the moment, but then so was the Marquess for the Masters last year.

Would rather play Hankley over both of them though.
