Breastfeeding in public should not be an issue. I don't give a fig if it offends people in the slightest. I would take issue with anyone preventing a mother from breastfeeding in public.

The expected apology probably coming but I bet it has been all planned and scripted. Wouldn't surprise me if the original comment was planned or carefully selected.
I have not come across anyone having an issue with this for a while.
It's still an issue but it's uncommon or extreme (hence why it makes the news). Vast majority of us have no issues I bet.
I take these events with a pinch of salt, however it's good that these subjects are discussed every now and again so we don't forget that in power can be abused or misused (unintentionally).
Us as consumers of news should carefully think about what we read and put it into context, things only make the news if they are unusual or will sell papers etc.
