I was wondering how many rounds it took you to break 100 for the first time.

The reason I ask is that I almost did it on sunday during my forth round. The reason I didnt was that I scored 10 on the par 3 16th. I put it in the water twice, can you believe it. Still went round in 102 mind.

I've decided to play the same course again this coming sunday and I'll be gutted if I get a worse score.

Breaking a 100 for the first time is a great achievement. However, it is breaking 100 consistently that will show a long term improvement and your handicap coming down.

I am around the 90 mark at the minute and seem to have some mental issue going on preventing me from getting below. Play 15 holes in, say, 13 over, and then 3 dreaded others really cost me!

My first 3 rounds went
139
105
101
99 - to be fair I played a lot of 9-hole rounds inbetween.

Since then I'm lucky enough to have only been in 3 figures once. And that was in a Medal 2 years ago playing off 10!
Felt suicide was the only answer.....

I agree tht keeping below 100 consistently is when you know you're improving. Then you work to 90, then 80 and if you're lucky 70.
Keep at it.

Sounds like my round at the weekend, If I didn't have a family i'd have topped myself by now  Did it take much time to recover from that mate?

What do you reckon?
The fact that he mentioned it is part of the therapy :D :D

You normally have to wait for alzheimer's to kick in before you forget that kind of stuff. Death of a spouse is easier to recover from.....

I would focus on playing level 5's. You'll pick up some shots to 5 on the par 3's and drop a few elsewhere but thinking 5's is a good mental leveller for your playing level and you'll get under 100 pretty quick, probably close to 90 gross (level 5's) soon enough.

Agree with Birdie, thats what I do now although I'm usually between 91 and 99 but never been over 100 for a good few months. took me about 5 months to get there though playing twice a week. good Luck, it will come soon. ;)

I cant remember how long it took me to break 100 as i was playing far too infrequently for years and years, literally a couple of rounds a year from the age of 15 to 29.

I've been playing much more regularly the last few years and it took me ages to get under 90, and to do it consistently took at least 18 months playing 2 or 3 times a week. Once i cracked that (and had a couple of lessons, breaking 80 came quickly. Its getting close to 70 (our par) thats proving IMPOSSIBLE...!!

Lessons were really important for me, unlocked a lot of it. Without them, i'd still be playing with my little bad habits which were holding me back.

Nearly got there in the club championship last year. Suffice to say my services for the 2nd day weren't required. I think it was a little while before I got below 100 but then something seemed to click and my scores started to improve pretty steadily. Now it seems as though I'm regressing back to my first few rounds

Took ages to recover - won the Stableford the week after with 42 points. :D :D :D :D

Sounds like you did well despite the horrible 10.

I think it took me at least 20 games to break 100, not that I remember that well.

Then it all clicked into place rather quickly. I guess if I'd gone for the lessons and done all the practice during those 20 games, it might have come quicker.

Do it for real next time...sounds a pretty easy challenge if you keep out of trouble.

I think it depends when you start playing really. It took me about 10 or so rounds I think, but I started playing in November which turned out to be constantly soggy and windy. Really struggled with the conditions, although I imagine it has benefitted me in the long run.

Still tend to score anywhere between 95 and 105 at the moment. Hoping to get consistently below 100 in the coming weeks. Best rounds so far was a 93 the other week at my home track and 92 at an away course (though the away course was only par 68).
