You mean this set?

Its 15 degrees, quite light in the head as it's got a hollow head and probably got a stiff shaft in it.....so not the most forgiving club in the world

I believe it was made for the 1.62" ball, like my Staff Fluid Feel irons - all the heads look small with the 'large' ball in front of them!

Love these classic blades

This has got me thinking (may need a new thread)

I have read that over the last 10 or 15 years with all the huge advancement in golf technology, the average club handicap
Worldwide has not gone down.

Now... Do you think if we were all forced to play blades from 3-w the average handicap would have gone up?

I believe it is all down to the short game, that is where the hcp counts. You do not need to be a big hitter just good with a wedge and putter.

What periods are you comparing?

Your statement may be true but rememebr, you can make statistics say what you want! Trust me, I do it for a living (well up until this month).

I know you are not the only one to say that but I have my doubts over the statement.

Yes, I still use them and as they came out in 1988 ish, the small ball was still in use
Bob,

Given that you are in the business of making it easier to play better golf, can you explain why you don't do so for yourself?

Image? Ego? Laziness? Cost? Nothing actually wrong with any of those reasons btw.

It's just that, when the likes of Y E Yang are winning majors with no irons longer than a 6, it would seem reasonable to believe that it's more sensible to use more forgiving weapons.

Really? Clubs made in 1988 for the small ball? Nah. The big ball was made mandatory at the Open more than a decade before and banned entirely in 1990.

Both of these (inc. Fluid Feel) were global models and the small ball was not used in the US after the 1930s. Would any manufacturer really make a different iron model to hit a ball only 0.06" diameter smaller?
