The joke is, my mate with the 695mb's took one look at my ZB's, and said, 'that top line is way too fat. looks a bit game improvy to me'. and to a point, after my Macgregor 1025m blades, he is right. I still wanted to deck him though. Trouble is he is 6ft 4, and built like a tank.

Ive had the MP67's for over a year now which have a slight muscle back, i had a set of old titleist blades (same set for 6 years) before these and glad i made the move now after a few months experimenting and going back to old irons, anyway I have to say the X-20 tour's long irons that I won in the Phil Mickleson competition last year, compare very favourably against both sets of blades mentioned. As you get into your scoring clubs you do lose a bit of "feel" with the cavities but i was amazed how nice the long irons felt. You also get that extra yardage help with a cavity back that you dont find with a forged head. If I felt that overall I could go round 18 holes with cavity backs I would switch but at the minute its not the case.

I agree withe the point someone made about players using blades for the "status" it gives them. I play with a lot of players like people mentioned who use forged clubs who really shouldnt, its so obvious that their games would improve with a bit of forgiveness in the irons. I dont say anything, just makes beating them a little easier (sometimes!)

mikest,
you lost me there. you talk of cavity back and forged as if they were different animals. My MacGregors are forged cavity backs. I will admit I don't yet use them to their full potential but that day will come.

The MX200's are also forged Cav backs.

I went from MX19's with their huge sole to the more lean FP's and tbh I love the Cobra's, great feedback and workability.

Blades are not something I would want, and chose cavs over blades for my game.

The mx 200 are a mixture of everything! They have a forged, bladed, cavity back design 8- pw then cavity back, forged, 7-3 iron.

They work a treat and I love them lots.

Dont think I will ever go with blades as they are so unforgiving.

I've got a set of progressive irons so I get the best of both worlds.

I think for the player looking for the best compromise a combo set would be the way to go. Rather than struggle with bladed long irons, enjoy the relief given by a small cavity and then enjoy the sumptuous feeling of a bladed short iron

It is all about feel..... Though i have to say the recent titleist forged zm and callaways x forged irons are nearly there but.... Crunch a Mizuno Tp 3 iron and watch the ball soar high in to the blue sky on a crisp winters day and you will know the answer to this debate..

Lorcan,

Welcome to the forum. Great first post. I know what you mean but sadly these days it is on these crisp winter days that I will manage to thin said blame and have an uncmofrtable 10 minutes with jelly arms as the shockwaves permeate through my body :(
