Blackmoor,

First in the morning, 2nd last in the afternoon.

Start fast, finish early is my mantra (much to my wifes disgust :D)

Rob

I'm with you Rob - afternoons are for Wimps!!
Real Men play in the Morning......

Was it just me, or were the greens not as quick as I was expecting? Lovely to putt on, very true, but not stupidly fast. A bit like Camberley on the Sunday. A good pace for me really.

What score did you have in the morning murph?
We were teamed up and i scored 17,the winning score was only 20? :)

It was 4 ball better ball, so only the best score from the pair on each hole.

I had about 13, which wasn't great, but I'm guessing we blew up on the same holes.

Anyway, if you had a back swing you might have scored even better.

I'd like to add my thanks to everyone involved in the organisation, it was a top top day.
Also to my playing partners EZProphet, SyR and Znuffzz for their excellent company for 27 holes.

These forum meets are fantastic days, I never fail to leave with a smile on my face (win or lose) as the banter is always great. If anybody has any doubts about going on one, get yourself involved. The golf is almost secondary.

I thought the course was superb, and could quite happily play there for the rest of my days. Even though the greens had been tined, they were plenty fast enough and very very true.

Lowlights:
Having to buy a new shirt between rounds as it was so hot in the morning and I hadn't brought a spare.
Not thinking about my normal shoes being locked up in someone else's car and not being able to get lunch.
My tee shot off the first in the morning (after someone bigged me up, or was it heckling??) :o
Not seeing an Adder all day, although I had the fear because after being told about them the grasshoppers sound like rattlesnakes when you're picking your way through the heather
Not having time to meet everyone and put more faces to names.

Highlights:
Bob selflessly sacrificing his score on 12 by showing his playing partners what a 'murph' was, in case they didn't know.
Playing the back 9 in level par.
Paul's chip in on 18. I didn't think he could keep it on the green and he only goes and holes it in front of the gallery. I hope the noise didn't upset the members!
The banter, as always.

Just want to echo what everyone else has said and say a big thank you to Rich for hosting us at his wonderful club. The course was stunning and the company was brilliant so thanks so much to you, Smiffy and TXL for organising a great day of golf.

I personally thought the greens were brilliant. Not lightning but fast and true. Unfortunately though, like so many others it seems, I struggled to get a hang of them all day and after a fairly promising 16 points in the morning 9 holes I slumped to an ugly 24 points in the afternoon.

After attempting my "shorter but straighter" fade off the first tee and putting it into the trees my driving never really recovered for the rest of the day, losing a few balls in the process. That, combined with 5 three-putts (37 putts overall) cost me dearly.

I did at least get to watch some good golf as I was playing with Gary (Region3) who's solid all around play was just quality. He hardly made a mistake with his ball striking and handled the tough pin positions brilliantly. I think he was even par gross on the back 9! A very deserved winner, congrats again mate. Thoroughly enjoyed the company aswell along with Simon (SyR) and Paul (zznuffz) and overall had a brilliant day.

Was great to meet a lot of you guys and put the faces to the names. Definitely going to get involved in another meet soon and hopefully I'll bring more game with me next time!

The club captain (who was an absolutely blinding bloke!) was up there cheering with the rest of us. Good enough for him, good enough for me!

We did get a bit of a disgusted look from the two ball trying to concentrate on their putts at the 9th...oh well! That was a once in a lifetime moment that I won't forget in a hurry!

I think I may have added to the noise when it dropped, along with a little jig and hand thumping - that is a moment I will never ever forget - where was the video camera when you needed it!! One of the most intimidating shots I have ever faced - must have been the heckles of "you wont even keep it on the green" that forced a rare moment of concentration!! I figured the only hope of getting it to stop on the green was knoking it so it virtually stopped when it came out of the light rough on the fringe - gravity did the rest  :) :) :) :) :) :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

12th place. Not bad. Too many mistakes led to 4 no score holes and the tricky greens meant I didn't make a thing of note except for the birdie on 17. Still given recent form I'd take that. I actually hit the ball quite well in the main and so was pretty happy with the way I played

The theatrical gestures you gave to coax it into the hole added to the drama as well. Bloody marvellous mate.

Just another note about the club captain - if ever you needed more proof that a club captain was "one of the boys", as soon as anyone left a 10ft or less putt short on 18 his comments were "what a load of [****] that was! He must have dropped his lipstick" :D

Echoing everyone else.

Many thanks to Richard for hosting a great event, to Smiffy for getting so many people involved and getting the money in, to their respective wives for helping out, to my playing partners Losttheplot, Sawtooth and Funky Fred for great banter and occasional flashes of inspiration on the course (sorry about my game lads :o), to all Forum friends old and new who were there for making it a great day, the greenkeeping staff for having such a great sense of humour, to my agent, my parents, and to anyone who knows me........

Thanks to the donators of the prizes (I believe that MikeH and the team at GM Towers helped out as well) and congrats to the winners. Region3 is always a good bet for a top class round - great shooting Gary, Moonraker's nearest the pin on the 9th was awesome - we were trying (unsuccessfully) to be nearest the green :o) and immense drive up the 18th by Swinger measured at 300 yds.

Well done you guys. :) :)

and immense drive up the 18th by Swinger measured at 300 yds.

Into the wind as well (even if it had died down by then - it was blowing a gale when I knobbed mine 211 yards :o, honest!)

Swinger is legitimately a monster and a super nice guy with an exceptional (but surprising!) taste in music. ;) He also has the sexist Mizuno Blades I've ever seen!

A super course ruined by my awful attempt at playing golf.

I would like to echo previous posts and pass on my thanks and appreciation to Richart and Smiffy for organising, the sponsors for donating prizes and my playing partners for the day Jammydodger,Justone and Snaphookwedge.

Congratulations to all the winners, and also for raising an excellent amount of money for the captains charity.

Looking forward to playing this course again.

On behalf of all the organisers and helpers thanks for the kind words. I am absolutely knackered today, mainly from the golf at Camberley and Blackmoor over the previous two days, and also from finishing off a bottle of wine with Bob at 1.00 am this morning. ;)

The course was set up for a big competition the day before, and as the green staff didn't get time to change the pins, we got the 'privilege' of playing the course at its most difficult off the white tees. The SSS from the day before was 72, against the par of 69, and as we were playing 7/8 handicap anyone with more than 30 points was doing well.

The results were as follows :

Morning team event: 1st Haplesshacker and Rob2
2nd Imurg and Coolhand
3rd Science Boy and Snelly

Afternoon individual stableford (7/8 handicap):

1st Region3 36 points
2nd TXL 34 points
3rd Swinger 34 points

12 and under handicap prize : Snelly 33 points
13 and over handicap prize : PN Wokingham 33 points

Guest prize: Alan Bannister 29 points

Nearest the pin: Moonraker

Longest drive : Swinger (300 yards +)

Wooden Spoon : Coolhand

Prize for hitting (and staying on) the par 3, 15th green
: Homer and PN Wokingham

Hidden hole booby prize (holes 4,6,7,12,18) with 1 point
: Smiffy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (took us ages to work out the holes to make sure he 'won' !)

Shot of the day chosen by Club Captain : PN Wokingham chip in on the 18th. Many thanks to Keith our Captain for giving Paul a bottle of bubbly out of his own pocket.

I would like to mention that I personally had the highest finish in the individual stableford not to win a prize. A perfect host I would say. ;)

Jon (Aztecs) Anthony (TXL) and Ian (Imurg), really enjoyed your company, and weren't you lucky not to have to play with me in the morning as well. Aztecs your shanked drive down 14, made me laugh so much ,I had my only blob, and missed out on a prize. :( Not sure how you had the nerve to put your long (?) drive on the marker. My gps had you as 60 yards behind the rest of us, but we were were all unfortunate to just miss the fairway. In Ian's case the 10th fairway :o

Paul your chip in was the golden moment, and it was a huge cheer. Still think you fatted it, and technically I was right that you would not keep it on the green, as finishing in the hole, it was below the green. :D

Thanks again to everyone for turning up (not one fall out), and making it a day to remember.
