Been thinking of upgrading my irons. Currently got a second-hand set of Wilson Di-11 irons that I bought from AG just under a year ago for a ton. Have been offered £75 for them by Golfbidder which is more than I expected tbh.

Done a bit of reading up earlier about which irons are best for high-handicappers / beginners. The Mizuno JPX EZ irons got a good write-up. Clubhousegolfdirect are doing them for £299 new (AG are asking for £595!), however I have spotted this used set on ebay for £160.

Assuming I could get AG to price-match Clubhousegolfdirect, could I also expect them to give me £75 trade-in on my current ones, or is that pushing it too far?

Or would I be better buying the second-hand set and punting the existing ones to Golfbidder?

I would go try out the JPX EZ irons before you buy if I were you. I tried them just over a year ago, didn't like them.

I wasn't too keen on them either. Yet, I know people who have them and love them. Its all down to what feels right for you.

Sounds like you should have a lash at AG. No harm in attempting the cheeky 300 off plus trade in gag but I don't see it flying! If it doesn't you can always seel to Golfbidder and buy the second hand ones from ebay, you're a tonne down with new (to you) irons.

If you don't like those there are plenty other good GI sets on here (For sale section), ebay etc and plenty willing folks to give their opinions on how good or otherwise they are. Lots of old threads about what clubs are good for high-handicappers, get to grips with the Search tool in the top right there and you'll have a wealth of info at hand.

Happy golfing!

thanks for the advice everyone. reckon I will give AG a go tomorrow, shy bairns get nowt as they say up here!

Try before you buy if you haven't already taken the plunge and try not to have to many pre-conceptions and try a few different makes. There's nothing that says you must have SGI/GI clubs as a beginner/novice and it depends on what you can play with and how you swing them
