Set up a comp today for 56 pit lads. Best two from four with all to score on the 18th.
In the past if a team has only had three players it has been best two from three but on the 18th the average of the three players is added to the score. It has never been a problem. Last year a three ball won it. This year a player from a three ball team said we are doin it wrong. He said " we should randomly pull a card out from another team, randomly pick one of the four players and check his scores against the three ball, if that players scores on any holes is better than the three ball, then the points should be added to the three ball scores". It go a bit deep discussing it and I was advised to have a talk with an ex club captain who knows rules etc inside out, he was also marking the cards. He said " tell him to get stuffed, and to leave it as it is". We did.
Anyone else heard owt like this before re randomly doin random stuff.

When it has come to the fourballs, in the past the lads have picked there mates to play with. Hopefully with that a mate won't let his mates down and the problem won't arrive. However this year for example one guy who asked me to book him a buggy last week as he has two knee replacements never turned up for the first tee off time. I rang him and asked where he was, " can I ring you back am in evans halshaw". Smart.
Can see this happening again, so in essence if it does all I do is pull out a card and say player C an put his scores in as the fourth man. And if it happens with more than one team use the same player C on all three ball cards 👍

Yes; although experience suggests that arrange to pick the spare player, or players, at random before anyone goes out and record them somewhere (without telling them).

This has the advantage of their value not being know at the time they are drawn - sits easier with all concerned when done this way.

Whether you draw one or more is optional, but as the maximum will be 3 we have always drawn more than one if needed.

The advantage of doing it this way over any arithmetic adjustment is that all arguments over whether your maths are fair disappear.
