i've been playing golf for 10 months. i know i should be chuffed with a 85, but today i never struck the ball well once, sliced a few drives, played my green from a different fairway 3 or 4 time's and missed a couple of 3ft putts.

can't believe i've scored my best ever and yet i left the course feeling deflated. weird :D

Golf is like that. I know you'll look back on this one day and wish you could have it all back!

You'll be hitting the ball well, finding fairways and greens with ease and not scoring well despite all this. Take the score at the end of the round and be happy!!

That is odd charly. You couldn't have played that bad though? :)
We all have days like this.

If you'd done it in a comp (or v serious game) you might feel differently. I'd take a PB with very few good shots. It's not going to happen though. I'd need to make nearly all pars, and that's not likely with really atrocious play. :)

I had a round last year exactly along the same lines.Couldn't get anything going at all. Walked off with 23 putts for a 75 (missed a lot of greens mind so had a lot of short putts). I think the fact you feel your playing badly takes your mind and the pressure off the score a wee bit.

Conversely when you're creaming every drive down the middle and cracking your irons near the pin your expectation levels are raised, increasing pressure which is probably more detrimental to our games than anything.

That's science that is

Take it as a good sign. Half of this game is being able to score well when you're not striking the ball well.

I used to think I'd played well and walked off not beating my handicap.
Now I'm usually only 3 or 4 outside it if I thought I played bad.
