Best live act?

I've seen loads of great gigs, including many of those mentioned above...

They're not really one of my favourite bands but definitely the best live act I've seen is Kiss. I've seen them twice; once stripped down no stage show just great performers and once with the full on OTT performance with make up, pyrotechnics, fire eating etc etc.
I take it the latter was at the SECC IN 2010 ? I was there

One band that always puts on a great show is Barenaked Ladies, A long set list, which change from gig to gig, plenty of banter and improvised stuff on stage and their music is great too.

No, it was donington in 1996. Original lineup reformed and put the full overblown show on; amazing. First time was donington in 1988, no stage show but they played all the classics and blew all the other bands on that day away; at the time I didn't know any kiss stuff and was a fan of some of the others but nobody else came close - iron maiden should have stayed in their dressing room and let kiss play on!

Good to see all the shout outs for Hawkwind and SAHB!

Sensational Alex Harvey Band

Genesis at Knebworth:smirk:

Rush and Boston

Todd Rundgren ;)

Status Quo - until we were evicted by the bouncers:angry:

Elton John- only because I wangled being a roady for that gig so it was just extra special

I wish I had something to play my old LP's on, that would be the first one on, SAHB Live.

The Tomahawk Kid being a huge favourite followed by Give My Compliments to the Chef.

Quality

Music wise - Oasis, Radiohead, Muse, The White Stripes, The Black Keys, Florence and the Machine, Manic Street Preachers.

Comedy - Billy Connolly, Eddie Izzard, Micky Flanagan.

Seen Maiden and Metallica a few times, never a bad gig, likewise Foo Fighters. But my best gig in recent memory was the Quireboys at The Brook last year. Just superb. Spike was ratted and had to be virtually helped onstage, and got that awful sinking feeling when you know its going to go wrong. But how wrong was I? He didn't miss a note all night, even when he tripped over his mic stand, the band were as tight as a tight thing and the between song banter was hilarious. A top top gig and I would recommend anyone to see them if they get the chance.

If we're including comedy I'll second Billy Connolly, absolute comedy genius. Saw him at the Labatt's Apollo once, if you're not familiar with the venue the man's opening line cleared up any doubts; "Welcome to the Hammersmith Odeon. Labatt's Apollo my arse!"

Also saw Mrs Brown's Boys live at the same venue, absolutely brilliant. Not sure it's going to transfer too well to the O2 though; I love the O2 for music, but I fear it could be a bit big & impersonal for this one.

I watched 'The Small faces' (Steve Marriott) in 1966, what a great band they were, I still play a CD in the car. If they were out new today they would still be a sensation.

This video brings it back to me how us 65'ish were not so different to later generations but are now seen as the eternal pipe and slipper brigade.

Stone Roses last year at Heaton Park!!!

Absolute dream come true going to see them again in June this year

I am a huge roses fan, since their magnificent debut album came out (I also think second coming is superb), but, and it's a big one. Passable bass player, gifted drummer, guitarist close to Marr like brilliance but live vocals? mmmmmmmmmmm

and I have every solo studio album he's cut

Of all the bands I never saw, but wished I had, top of the list, by a distance, would be Humble Pie.
Steve Marriott is the best rock singer I've ever heard and also the best white soul singer of all time, an absolute legend.
