Best Golf Commentator?

Alliss is still my #1 but is not quite as good these days. Radar is brilliant, and I like David Howell a lot. Mark Roe is ok. After that you can keep 'em.

I think the BBC's golf team just edge out Sky's. How about this for a 'dream team' line up:

Commentators: Allis, Ken Brown, Andrew Cotter, Wayne Grady and Rob Lee

On course: David Feherty, Wayne Riley, Richard Boxall

Highlights/studio presenters/ experts: Kirsty Gallagher, Sarah Stirk, Hazel Irvine; David Howell, Andrew Coltart, Denis Pugh, Butch Harman.

That's not a bad line-up IMO.

peter alliss is the best for me, i could listen to his voice all night long. ken brown's appearances on the course are excellent, especially when he holes one from 40 yards! butch is a very good commentator too, he's improved vastly since he started.

can't have monty or faldo their arrogance grates me!!

i quite like jean van de velde when he gets a chance. he comes across knowledgeable and succinct and doesnt try hard to be the world's greatest comedian.

on the other hand maybe i'm too forgiving because i hear his voice and think - "you poor ......., even i could have got a 6!"

Is Di Stewart/Dougherty at home with you then making the tea?

This may be controversial but I would say that Peter Allis is not only the best golf commentator but the best sports commentator of all sports of all time

Loved Alex Hay aswell

I don't care for people trying too hard to be comedians, so Fehety and Faldo (which is a shame, as when he's not trying to be funny he's good) are out.

Watching dodgy US feeds I catch a lot of Johny Miller, and although many in the states seem to dislike him, I think he is their version of Alliss, but a better golfer....

Wouldnt argue too much with that but would add Oosty and drop Ken Brown to on the course. Don't mind Faldo that much as he normally calls it pretty good.

I have a lot of time for Murray,Roe,Radar,Sir Colin,Van de Velde and Thimon Holmes.

I cannot stand Miller,Faldo,Clark,Alliss or Feherty who is my top dislike even ahead of Faldo.

After watching Sky Sports for a bit I have to say Jack Nicklaus' experience of golf and the course just gives him another dimension to commentating

Alliss has to be the master for me, one of the few who realise that good golf doesn't actually need talking about. I enjoy Radar & Feherty for the different viewpoint and Faldo & Butch Harmon for their depth of technical knowledge (and I love how fair Butch is during the Ryder Cups). Two that don't get much of a mention that I also really enjoy are Bruce Critchley and the late Dave Marr. I find Monty and Mark Roe deeply irritating (that's a technical term that means "I'd like to be plainer but don't really want an infraction").

Peter Alliss, Dave Marr & the BBC coverage of The Open; TV heaven.

Allies is the master and the wittiest.I do like Faldo having been one of my boyhood heroes. His knowledge on the swing and playing shots is superb.Harmon was great during the Ryder cup.Oosty, critchley, feherty and Riley also amongst my favourites.Roe and Monty not so.

Peter is the undisputed king of golf commentary in my opinion. Good shout by homer for Ewan Murray as well. Love Andy Coltart, Radar and don't think Monty is too bad.

Faldo and his boring monotone is pathetic and I also can't listen to Roe and the Spitting Image puppet!

Slack Alice has been a bumbling fool for far too many years. He just makes so many mistakes and talks about folk who have been dead for over 50 years. Torrance is also very poor.

Wayne Riley and Cotter are the best of the bunch. Maureen Madill is good on the course, great player who knows the game inside out. Howler is one for the future.
