I wish I had had the opportunity to play some of the courses you guys are listing, lack of a playing partner or funds has otherwise stopped me in the past.

Looks awesome Gary. I played Archerfield Links last year and it was the same... great for a day out but you wouldn't want to pay the rates

Played Vale do Lobo Ocean a few years back and the grandstands were up on the 18th, could imagine the polite applause as I putted in for my bogey......

Not the fanciest course I've ever played, but Gullane #2 is my favourite.

Suppose it's how you rate 'best'. Muirfield or St. Andrews will rate higher than Gullane, Archerfield and Renaissance are fancier and pricier, but I like a course with an earthy soul, so Gullane for me.

Played Aloha a few times, and will enjoy watching the pro's play it this week.

No.2 is a great course Adi so I get you (except that hill on the 3rd... that kills me). No.1 is my favourite at Gullane, then 2 and 3 last but that's only because 3 is so short.

Got my first birdie and eagle on Gullane no.3! Not played it in years as love no.2.

May have to do a 36 holer in the summer and play both

Not been to that many really. Away from the big names, Abbeydale GC in Sheffield was very nice, Bondhay is interesting. Going to Forest of Arden soon as well as Belton Park so those 2 hopefully will go onto the list. Divide Ranch and Club in Colorado was a stunner as well more so as it was free to play due to my Mums friends living on the complex.

Mine would have to be Oliva Nova Golf Resort in Spain. Voted as Seve's best layout and an amazing course that I have the joy of going to pretty much when I want due to family apartment in the resort.

Wentworth East for me although I am sure the West would have pipped it. The real bonus...didn't cost a penny as it was a work perk which was amazing. It also happened to be the first time I broke 100.

The facilities were amazing and the weather was great. All in all a very memorable day!

Heading to Hawaii in a couple of months so am hoping the Kona Country Club might compete (atleast on the weather front or I will be gutted!)

Best golfing experience would have to be the Old Course, but as a course it wouldn't make my top 5.
Best course played would be the Kings course at Gleneagles.

I havent Played too many big name courses, or many except in my area, but the BEST Course Ive Ever played would have to be Archerfield Links , FIDRA Course :thup:
A Fantastic Experience, from entering the gates, breakfast on the terrace, the Practice facilities, the Golf Course itself, ( of course ) , Everything is 1st Class
My next 2 favourites are VICTORIA and the Old Course in Vilamoura Portugal

Les Bordes at top of Loire Valley for me. Got in the Golden Book for keeping the same ball the whole round too (12 holes with water 1 of which iwhere it's in play for 3 shots!).

Worked in Edinburgh for 2 years twice so got to play quite a few of the stunners up there Kings is a great course with fabulous views. Likewise Kingsbarns and there is something magic about The Old Course - though The New is a better track imo. Played Muirfield quite a bit as it's easy to get on anytime except Summer - I was often the only person on the course, the view when you go through the gates is stunning anf the lunch is phenomenal (2nd only to Royal St Georges). Shot 69, 74 at Gullane 3,2 resp (off 9 - and came 2nd) so a return would only be a disappointment! And standing on the 12th tee of Craigielaw in the evening in August/September, watching the Geese landing on Aberlady Bay in squadrons in one directions, the sun set over Arthur's Seat in the other and the hares and swifts larking about is truly sensational!

So while any links course is magic to me, the best for me in Britain is Royal Birkdale both as a course and an experience (played a few holes with Henri Leconte and a couple of other Masters Tennis players).

BTW. As a day's golf, a summer outing to the Red and Blue at The Berkshire (with lunch) is #1, closely followed by Duchess and Dukes, with lunch, at Woburn anytime, so enjoy Thursday! Had a day (Old, New) at Sunningdale a couple of times and, while extremely nice, just seemed a bit on the stuffy side for me (Swinley is actually less so!).
